I doubt it, considering it took 50 minutes when you weren't enjoying it.

Even taking your word for it, you likely would have backed up someone with a reservation. Is that fair?

It's no excuse for the venue, but holidays like Mother's Day are an exception. Things happen in restaurants that don't normally happen other days of the year. I personally won't walk into an establishment on Valentine's day, or within five minutes of closing for instance, even though they're "open".

I'm telling you this is my #1 go to spot in BR.......I love the place and was severely disappointed today.

And my wife confirmed they were not taking reservations at all.......period.

ETA: I rarely ever get agitated at a restaurant...........I'm usually don't mind if the service is slower or if my order is wrong just in good spirit of everyone makes mistakes.

Read my post on the first page!

I found the email. Here is what it said:

Mother's Day
Don't just give a little this Mother's Day.. give a Brunch.
Make your reservations now to celebrate Mother's Day at Bistro Byronz.
If you can't make it in, Bistro Byronz gift cards will certainly make her smile!

So, there!

Missed your post.

This was not the message the girl who answered the phone gave us when we called.

That may have been the case but that was not what the hostess told us.

When she said they were not taking reservations my followed up with "not al all or y'all are full"

The girl said "not at all, get here early for a table."

Regardless it seems like bad practice to hold table for an hour when you have people sitting outside waiting to be seated. Seems like they would be losing money.

I know it's a holiday and all but I still think the situation was poorly handled.

Guess we need to get on that mailing list

I wouldn't say we were on a time restraint.......there was ample time for a meal and for everyone to get where they needed to go.

Especially since they were not taking reservations and we were one of the first ppl there.

I still think you are missing the point on the table holding. While you might have gotten out before the noon block, most people wouldn't have, and they have no way of knowing who will and who won't take over an hour.

Should they sacrifice the good will of the people who made reservations for the walk-ins?

It's pretty standard practice, and I'm having a hard time believing you don't get it.

I get it......I guess.

I've just never been in a full restaurant with empty tables all over the place and people waiting all over the place to be seated.

I'd say if it opened at 11 and people made a reservation for 12 I'd sit tables for ppl at 11.

Lets say all the reservations where for 11:30 to twelve as ppl are getting out of church.

You just keep a restaurant full of empty tables for an hour while paying customers sit and wait?

And what do you do if not enough of them are up for the noon reservations?

You tell them "it's mother day.....your table will be ready shortly.......can we offer you a drink on the house while you wait"

I'm telling a good 50% of the tables were empty until 11:30. When I left at 11:50 I'd say 25% were still empty.

Okay. Got it. In your restaurant, reservations don't mean much.

after y'all sat at the bar, did you check with the hostess about being sat again? she might have thought y'all chose to just sit at the bar and didn't want a table?

that happened to me recently

re: Bistro Byronz - MD Review (tl;dr warning)

The hostess looked at her book when we told her our problem and pointed out a 1:30pm reservation and the guy next to her said "no don't sit them there"

I just felt the whole deal was very unorganized.

I guess it is the concensus of the FDB that my rant is not warranted.

As I've stated before, I don't really want to bash on Bistro........it's our favorite place to eat in town. We go there for all of our special occasions and in between. I even eat lunch there sometimes cause it's near my office.

yeah, but after the initial rush, did you go back to the hostess? like I said, she might have assumed y'all were ok with just sitting at the bar and didn't worry about moving y'all to a table.

We did not........we just resigned to sitting at the bar. Maybe our fault.

This is the whole problem. You have the wrong understanding of how things work. When diners reserve the table they reserve its availability AT THAT TIME. Who's to say that if they sat you at that table that was previously reserved that you'd be done and leaving in roughly 50 minutes, giving them time to bus and clean the table for the party with the reservations? You don't make reservations to sit at the bar. You make reservations for your table.

I agree that the hostess is in the wrong for telling your wife that they were not taking reservations, but I think we all know nothing will come of that.
