Current State of Handgun Sales?

Those of you with a finger on the pulse, what do you see going on right now? Is the dust beginning to settle or are we still in the thick of it?
I casually browse stores and sites every couple of weeks. Noticed a Ruger LCR available now and cheaper than Academy on one independent site. SP101s, which I haven't seen for less than the $500-650 range, available now and for $486. Still next to nothing to be had on Bud's or Gunbroker, though.
Probably going to have to make my next purchase a Xmas present waiting prices to fully return to normal.

The smaller stores around here are starting to get more ammo. The bigger stores like Cabelas, I've noticed still dont have crap, probably cause more people go to them, the next couple of months should progressively get better, then assuming no bat shite crazy laws are passed the market will get flooded with cheap guns. At least that's what I think is going to happen.

Yeah. I'm really interested whether the Xmas season will create another run/bubble or if prices haven't returned to normal by then, just perpetuate this bubble. Like you've mentioned, the best time to buy may be late summer.

I wouldn't say I have a finger on the pulse but I do look at it everyday. My interpretation of what's going on is that guns nobody wants are pretty much available again. Depending on where you're looking they aren't all that overpriced. Some of them are cool guns too like the sig nightmare and the remington 1911s. Smith revolvers are impossible to find. Springfield 1911s get rarer as they get nicer. Almost all custom 1911 builders aren't even worth contacting right now. Bolt guns and shotguns have settled down drastically but look for shotguns to start getting bought up around the end of July for hunting season. I also think you're going to see a lot of used ARs and AKs around this time and again around the middle to end if November. That will also free up the new ones (simple supply and demand). As long as nothing stupid happens I think we're going to be sleeping easy at the end of summer and care free by the beginning of 2014

Actually saw a Smith 642 at Academy a few weeks back. But haven't seen one since. And now they've pulled it from their website. Wonder what's going on.

Not sure what's going on with them. I've talked to a couple supply companies and a bunch of large retailers and nobody knows that's going on. I suspect because they build ARs and high capacity handguns that's where their focus is.

I talked to one of the guys in the Gun library and he said they are probably about a month away from being able to actually order guns. The past 4 months they have been having to take what was sent to them.

From my discussions w/ our local FFL, it sounds like supplies or SOME guns are STARTING to improve.

I'm not convinced people will buy that many guns for Christmas. First off people that don't love guns are tired of hearing about that shite. Another reason is you're going to see a lot of guns come on the market in order to afford Christmas.

I figure that if people just buy the number of guns at Christmas they usually do, it will be sufficient to deplete the fragile, rebuilding stock. Of course, I hope we're BOTH wrong and that supplies return to usually much more quickly.

Well it's looking a bit better. As you've noticed, you can finally find SOME 40, 45, and 223 at select places. That's a good sign that people who usually don't buy guns and ammo are satisfied with their supply.
The only thing I see making the situation worse is for Obama and Biden to keep running their mouths about passing more gun control. That's the entire reason this panic happened and the more they perpetuate the hysteria, the more people run out to buy guns and ammo. I've seen a lot of first-time buyers in the past few months.
