I've seen belugas in Turnagain Arm, just outside of Anchorage.

I've also seen glacier bears. They are blue/gray adaptations of the black bear. Also have cinnamon black bars around here too which look like a brown bear without the hump.

Glacier bears are pretty cool, just adapted to the glaciers in the area. Pretty rare sighting.

Some are blue, some are gray and some look white.

Off topic - Roger, do you believe in the squatch? I've seen the shows on Discovery that talk about the Alaskan Squatch that puts trees upside down into the ground to mark their territory.

I guess anything is possible. I do find it interesting the native groups all over the state have legends that date centuries back of a similar creature, and there is still places a man has never physically been to, around here.

We also have a very large bird that has become quite the discussion topic around here. I have talked to a couple pilots who claim to have seen it, and they were pretty damn credible.

LINK

It's about the size of an Otter (DHC-3 airplane) and one of the guys I talked to was an Alaska Air pilot.

Yep, stories from pilots have the wingspan anywhere from 14-20 feet. That's one helluva bird. Biologists say it could be a stellar sea eagle, but none approach that size.

I have my doubts that there is anything out there like a Sasquatch now, but I have to chuckle at the arrogance of people who are absolutely positive that it's not even possible. We know that such creatures have existed in the past, and we discover new species all the time. Could a small group of these ape-like creatures have survived? Probably not, but I'm not betting my life on it.

Real Bigfoot of times past

And I know this question was to Roger, but I had to chime in...

Gigantopithecus was a huge ape but there is no evidence it walked upright. No pelvic bones have ever been found.

I used to believe in Bigfoot and followed cryptozoology more than the average person. I even own the Monsterquest series. I think I am giving up hope now, though.

I never said Bigfoot was a Gigantopithecus, just that apes of that size have existed before...and I personally do not believe in the modern existence of Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti. I'm just not willing to say that I'm absolutely sure that the aren't out there.

Reflection in the pond you were drowning the deer in?

Kudamundi while sitting in a deer stand in St Franny. Had I not been advised by the landowner that there were two in the area, I wouldn't have known what the phuck it was. Wife has seen one of them cross the road in the early morning at Audubon Lane & 966.
