Should Mike Scioscia be fired?

Last year was a total failure, and this year is even worse. Given the lack of results despite a gigantic payroll, do you think Scioscia should take the fall?

Secondly, do you think he WILL get fired?

This seems like the classic case of championship coach with a stagnant program/team. He'll probably get fired just for the fresh start. He's been there a long time.

No, unless he pushed to sign those players.

Sadly he probably will. But he should get another managerial job if he wants one.

No and No.

Alot of baseball left to play. That's why managers usually never get axed in the middle of the season. Gotta judge the entire body of work.

And FWIW, the Angels are the type of ballclub that could get hot and reel off 15 of 20. They're probably the best suited MLB team to do that.

Except for the majority of their rotation not named Weaver (DL) and their bullpen.

Stocked up on bats, forgot the arms.

eta: Saw earlier that this is the first time they've been 11 under .500 since May 2006.

They have no pitching. 15/20 is going to require them to win a lot of 10-7 type games.

Tried to tell everybody on this board the strategy to sign someone like Hamilton wouldn't work.

Sadly MS will get fired. It won't be his fault, but they need a change.

I expect this to be pretty split in terms of opinion.

I honestly don't know what to think. He didnt make the call to sign some of these star players, but he's also not doing a very good job of motivating them either. Some of these contracts look absolutely horrible right now, and that's gonna stick with them regardless of how long Scioscia hangs around.

He's been there too long. It's just time. This stuff always happens.

If they fire MS , the Rangers need to go get him. He'd be a huge upgrade over Wash

Me either.

So far this year they're paying $33 mil for:

.240/5/19/.322
.198/3/10/.255

Not a whole lot of ROI there.

I'd take him in a heartbeat over Dusty Baker.

I mean they are really fricking bad. They don't run anymore for the most part, they are mediocre on the basepaths, their defense sucks, they can't pitch for shite.

They are a really bad ballclub right now. And they have zero prospects to trade to upgrade their roster this summer.

Should he? Not really, although I guess it might be good for a fresh start.

Will he? Way too early to tell.

I like Scioscia a lot as a manager too.

All you ever heard from angels fans was "he does more with less!!! Look at this roster!!!" And then they point to their "Pythagorean win projection" and note how they exceeded it.

I think he's overrated. Always has been. He's a solid manager but not worthy of the praise he gets. If your team isn't responding then that's on the manager. Whether he wanted the players or not, his job is to motivate and win. He's not doing that.

It may not be fair but that's life. They can't fire the stars.

ETA: Should he be let go now? No.
