Size a Highschool Football Player Should Be?

I'm having an argument with a friend who is saying how a freshman should be like 5'10 180 and I call bullshite

after reading the thread, I may have been way off.

First of all, you're a little young to be posting here.


Secondly, size isn't a big deal in High School ball unless you're playing in the top divisions, 5A or 6A, and even then it doesn't matter.


Just be between 5'8" and 6'2" for all of those positions you listed, weight wise, I don't know depends how tall you are. Around 180 would probably suffice for any of them if you're around 5'10".


ETA : If you're a Freshman you'll likely be playing around 140.

As a freshman anywhere from 150-170 is probable normal

I thought the average was maybe like 5'7 -5'8 and 130-140

5'10" 180? That probably isn't the real weight of most senior cornerbacks in 5A.

When I was a kid, the Advocate would list starting line-ups for all of the area high schools in this huge pre-season preview. My friend who played 5A football as a receiver said it best. "All the coaches get blackout drunk and make up weights for all of their guys."

I was 5'8" as a freshman and probably taller than 3/4 of my classmates. I'd guess the average height is 5'7 for guys at those positions, weight is maybe 140. But realistically, those guys are only going to be on the JV team.

I was about 5'8" 115 at the end of 8th grade, so you're not too far off

I know my that on my brother's team (2A Louisiana), they had two starters on the varsity line below 210 and only one above 235.

None of them were taller than 6'2".
