We have been five or six times over the past two years. Last time was a disappointment and I said I woul dnot go back. Happy to hear it may be back to being a good place. Always loved the fried grits balls in his shrimp and grits.

The gumbo salad was always good too.

Would have recommended this but he didn't want fancy and the drive up to the front door is some kind'a fancy.

Loved Wolf Bay Lodge when it was in its old location in Elberta, before it burned down.

Went to their new location in Orange Beach last summer and didn't really care for it.

I personally don't mind fancy. There is just a strong possibility that it will be a pretty drunk group. A lot of beach beer drinking commencing early. Wouldn't want to desecrate a 5* establishment b/c of the possibility of registering on the obnoxious scale

The fancy was a joke with the other poster who listed it (Ginger Merkin). Fisherman's corner looks like a dive when you pull up. It is under the bridge on Perdido Key in Florida on Canal drive off H-292 - google it and follow the directions take the first right after you cross over the bridge and go back under the bridge. You'll see it.

The food there is really good and the inside is not what you would expect from the outside appearance. I would recommend the shrimp grits, whatever fish they have that day, any of the gumbo salad, seafood - better yet, anything they have. Ask the waiter and they will take care of you. You should be able to eat for $15 - $30 per (less alcohol).

Wolf Bay Lodge is good and its on the bay so you can sit outside which is nice. They have a good salad bar to go along with your entree. I wouldn't call it fine dining at all.

Shrimp Basket is great for fried shrimp and crawfish. They have all you can eats during the week too. We hit it up a few times each trip to try different things.

Original Oyster House isn't bad but its touristy and gets packed quick. I've seen 2-3 hour waits.

Most places will cook your fish for you if you bring it so if you go fishing that's an option.

For breakfast the pancake house in the Best Western was surprisingly good.

Avoid the popular tourist traps which is basically anywhere along the beach that sells a tshirt at the register. I've yet to find great meals at any of those places (Hazels, Sea N Suds, Bubbas, Crab Trap, etc). If you don't want anything special you may not mind. Sea n Suds usually has some scenery because chicks like it. The food isn't great though.

LuLu's is a shitty place. Be prepared to wait at least an hour for a table, get overpriced drinks at the bar while waiting, and then getting some shitty shitty food when you sit. At least margaritaville has some good things on the menu.

We used to stay right beside Sea-n-Suds at the Boardwalk. It was good to grab a burger or something for lunch, but I don't think we ever ate dinner there.
