It's a lousy excuse. Eating out healthy can be expensive but at home it doesn't have to be.

Chicken at all Albertsons or Wally Worlds are $1.99/lb when not on sale. $1.49/lb when on sale. A weeks worth of protein for $10...and that is if you eat an entire pound of meat in a day.

Beans + rice could feed you for an entire week - $3.00-$4.00

Yeah, nothing is cheaper (and easier, for the lazy) than the dollar menu at fast foot places. OP has failed

Think about how cheap you can get fast food, chips, candy bars, hot dogs, sugary drinks, etc.

Not denying they are readily available. I don't really eat fast food regularly. I'll stop at a Wendy's or something for a burger on a road trip, but I hate eating and driving so that's rare.

What's a Big Mac meal these days? 6 bucks?

The other night I made fajitas with brown spanish rice and chilied (dusted with cumin, oregano and chili powder) grilled vegetables.

1 pound top sirloin was 4 bucks.

About 50 cents of rice

2 bucks worth of vegetables.

Lettuce from the garden to take the place of tortillas.

That fed five.

I don't know. I guess unhealthy stuff can be cheaper, but like I said, it's generally unsatisfying to me, and I always want more.

its way cheaper to buy a weeks worth of unhealthy food as opposed to eating healthy

no doubt; filling up on 2000 calories worth of junk is much cheaper than 2000 calories of "healthy" foods

I can see that, but I will eat one apple for a snack and not want another one. If I buy chips, I will binge on those bastards and eat the whole bag in one or two sittings. In my personal experience, unhealthy snack foods -- though cheaper -- disappear a whole lot quicker and are less satisfying.

Ok that's a self control issue, which is at the root of this country's obesity epidemic. I too, could go to town on chips (especially at a Mexican restaurant where the baskets are endless), but I can also finish off a huge bowl of watermelon if I wanted to. Fat people wouldn't be fat if they ate a single serving of tostitos chips every day.

I'll never understand why people do diets where they cut out whole food groups or a particular ingredient. You can have it all and still be healthy, just have to educate yourself on portion control and food measurements, combined with exercise.

care to elaborate on the grocery list and menu?

im a healthy eater and I know its not all that expensive, but cutting that much off of your weekly grocery bill seems like a lot. Unless of course they were just buying a lot of unnecessary items before.

Something like that. Not sure--I rarely go to fast food places. I don't like to spend that much on lunch or eat junk too often.

Brown rice, whole wheat pasta, frozen vegetables, and beans are all affordable and if you pay attention you can find good deals on meat. It would work even better for a family than for one person because you don't have to buy a big pack of chicken and hope you use it all up before it spoils.
