I don't think La Fonda was overrated. It was what it was and was accepted as that. Ive never heard anyone say it was great or even that good in my entire life.

Ivevbeen three times to Roberto's and I dgaf if I ever go back. It's not bad, it's just to me overrated.
Probably the only thing ill ever agree with you about.
I went once and won't go back. It's got a nice feel to it but the service was average and the food I thought sucked. I had a bland grilled catfish with crawfish étouffée on top. Really no flavor at all.

I think you have a misunderstanding about La Fonda. First, it's not "La Fonda's".. you must be from Lafayette or the surrounding area.. Everybody put's an "'s" on everything.
The food is ok.. The margaritas and sangrias are good and very strong. One thing worth mentioning about LaFonda is the service and the way clientele are treated. Lee Bob Cox was one of the nicest people in the bar and restaurant business in Lafayette. He knew everyone's name. He was old Lafayette and he related to the right people. In turn, they patronized his business and still do today, now that his kids run it. It's a big part of the Lafayette tradition. It's a fun place to go.. and a damn fun place to have drinks with a big group.
If that's what YOU call over-rated, then so be it. I call it running a successful, profitable business.

Yep... I should weigh about 500 pounds, but thankfully due to my metabolism I only weigh 215 (and I'm 6'3"). Still, I know my arteries are probably begging for mercy.

They are talking about Roberto's River Road Restaurant in St. Gabriel.
and bdevill, all I can say is, you've obviously never been to Chicken Shack, my friend.

I apologize that my iphone autocorrected a heteroecious name such as Fonda to Fonda's.
I'm not from lafayette. 60 miles away, but IMO that's far from the surrounding areas.
I may be misunderstanding the locals view point of what La Fonda('s?) stands for, but I am quite sure the food is terrible and the margaritas are sub par.
I am a huge supporter of the locals anywhere I go and will pass up a chain in a heartbeat to help out mom and pop, but If I don't enjoy the services they have to offer there then I'm not going to spend my money there.

If you don't mind me asking, where exactly?

Ill just say Avoyelles Parish.
Posted on 5/6/13 at 5:22 pm to TigerHam85
OK... I was just curious. Always looking for new eats in different parts of the state. I go to Avoyelles Parish once in a while to go to Paragon. Haven't really found anything great to eat up in that area, although I do like T-Jim's in Cottonport for boudin and such. I really like Cottonport; it seems like a nice little town.

T-Jim's is great. Half of my friends grew up in cottonport. Great little town if that's your kinna thing. Swing through Bunkie and grab a burger at Bernice's one day.
Best burger I've ever had.

I'll definitely swing by there on my next trip.
Only been to Bunkie once, and all I remember is a Royal Cajun Chicken place, or something like that.
Don't they also have a Shipley Donuts in Bunkie?

Yep. Mr Clearance is still frying them donuts up. Best donut I've ever had right there in Bunkie. Meche's is a damn close second, but those Shipleys are just a tad bit fluffier.

Incorrect.. I know the Delpits personally.. namely Henry.. Good people.. but they get respect in BR.. They're a knuckle suckin institution. It's just laughable that this thread began with knocking decent restaurants and turned into a praise thread for fried chicken, hog head cheese and boudin.

Damn bro... looks like I need to take a trip to Bunkie in the near future.
Have you ever had hogshead cheese from T-Jims? I always just get the boudin (regular & red), but I've heard that their head cheese is excellent. I never even knew they had it.

I probably stop to get hog head cheese more often than I stop to get boudin. Yea, it's that good.
