I saw this last night. Despite seeing the countless Youtube parodies, I thought it was one of if not the best World War II film I've ever seen.

I ended up grabbing my iPad and reading about the historical facts from the movie while watching it.

Excellent, excellent movie.

Very good film. Haunting in a way no American film could ever be. Cold, non-sentimental, beautiful, horrifying, and tragic. A nation swept up in a wave very few chose to swim against.

Unless they find a way to clone or reincarnate Hitler, Bruno Ganz's portrayal is going to be the best representation we'll ever get.

Any other movies you would compare to this one? It doesn't have to be World War II related. Just something historical and well done that may not be an obvious find.

the scene where they give all the kids cyanide capsules and tells them the capsules will help them fall asleep has always stuck with me

That was the sleeping potion, which in whatever fairness is due that psycho of a mother was the truth.

What got me was the older daughter knowing what was going on and struggling to not drink it so they hold her down and pour it down her throat. Yeesh.
