Mayweather is currently undefeated and he has made claims of being the best ever by backing it with "numbers don't lie."

Many boxing purist like to say Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, among other are the greatest pound for pound fighter, all who have several losses on their final records. Rocky Marciano is one of the few with an unblemished record who some boxing fans find as the greatest.

So is it better to fight the top competition available and lose from time to time, or pick and choose who to fight and when, to keep the perfect record?

Mayweather has a long history of dodging opponents. The only way for him to avoid that asterisk would have been to fight pacq two years ago

Anyone with a boxing IQ of .5 knows that Floyd would have punished Pacquiao. Some of you really need to take boxing 101

To the OP: Ray Robinson is easily the greatest p4p fighter in boxing history. Just look at his record in his prime.....unreal.

Undefeated is a marketing tool. So, yes, it means a lot.
I'm not into boxing but knew a young pro boxer back in the day. I asked him if fights were fixed. His response:

"No, but if your record is 20-5 and you're going against a younger boxer who is 9-0 you're gonna have to beat the crap out of him to win the decision. Because he's undefeated."

Thing is we will never know and we will always assume.... I believe people thought Tyson would punish Buster Douglas as well

Must be fun to talk out of your arse. Anyone with an IQ of .5 knows that anything could have happened with Pacq in his prime.

Not to mention, you're an idiot, because my point had absolutely nothing to do with whether May would have won or not. The point stands - he is notorious for dodging top end opponents.

Lol at this guy

This prime PAC you speak of struggled severely against Marquez and destroyed everyone else. Why? Because PAC can't defend a counter and never has been able to.

Floyd would have countered PAC til he couldn't take any more punishment.

Again, it's fricking Boxing 101

And you're the idiot, assclown. Floyd made an offer to PAC and he turned it down due to Olympic style drug testing demands.

So PAC dodged the fight, idiot.

Boxing 101 that just about any boxing expert would vehemently disagree with. Obviously May would have been the favorite - no one is saying otherwise. How many times have you seen a favorite lose a fight? Happens all the time. You're just making ridiculous assertions because you nut-hug on Mayweather 24/7 on this board. Stop sounding like a moron.

Yes. The entire reason why the fight didn't happen is on Pacq. Must be nice being delusional.

Floyd/Golden Boy made an offer

Pacquiao/Top Rank turned it down

There's no other way to put it. Pacquiao said he didn't want to take a pre-fight drug test. Pacquiao dodged this one buddy.

Floyd is no ordinary fighter and neither is PAC....but styles make fights and this one was all wrong for PAC. He gets hammered with counters and leaves his face wide open when he unloads. That's the perfect scenario for counter punchers like Floyd and JMM. Morales exposed him as well in 2005.

If I remember correctly pac agreed to the testing... The final straw was actually Floyd's refusal to go 50/50.

I believe he wanted to get a 70% cut. His reasoning was it would still be more money then pac ever made.

I can't really agree with this, Mayweather has ducked and dodged the best competition out there and would only fight them when they were way past their prime.

I don't disagree but the fact that he clearly ducked him is a black mark on his resume.

BOOOMMMM!!!!! hahaha! Undefeated in this last days of boxing age is not what used to be, but still impressive. IMO, It's not so much he was afraid of Pac himself, but so afraid of losing, that made him indirectly afraid of Pac. He could still fight him but he wont.

It's much better to fight the best and lose on occasion then to win only because you can out gun the rest. An Marciano is the best.
