I wish the mothership would at least mention these kind of developments in passing when they aren't talking about the jets or the lakers

Every generation has cheated in baseball. It annoys me that people act like the Steroid Era was the only era that cheated.

I thought it was shown that corking doesn't do anything to help

If it works or not is irrelevant. The intent was to cheat.

if we're talking about his legacy of a player, it doesn't matter (B/c he didn't help him)

and he was a pretty huge POS, so any effect on his legacy as a person is negligible

I'm a little young but it seems like Mantle already has some haters and a bad rep. I really never knew that

damn dirty Okie. He was a notorious alcoholic, am not surprised one bit.

I'd be a bit bummed if Johnny Bench was proven to be a scumbag though.

Lol at mythbusters.

I've hit BP with a corked bat, it definitely helps.

you're wrong and showcasing a perception bias

Not Mythbusters

quote:

Corked bats are one of the most notorious examples of baseball cheating, but the researchers suggest it might not do much good: When testing corked bats, Nathan and his team found that instead of adding more trampoline effect, corking a wooden bat actually decreased it. "What you gain in higher bat speed, you lose in a less effective collision," Nathan says. "It does not lead to a higher batted ball speed." And because the bat is lighter, balls hit with a corked bat don't travel as far, he says. However, the lighter weight of a corked bat may allow hitters to get to pitches they might not otherwise hit with a standard bat.

From MIT: Definitely not Mythbusters

WGAS? He intended to cheat and that's all that matters. Not whether or not it actually works.

One corked bat equals mantle corking all his bats.

Solid TD logic

No one is saying mantle was an angel. Sure he had intent to cheat.

But if corking doesn't work..then his numbers are still legit and not compromised
