Basketball fundamentals that the NBA players don't do

1. They hardly ever follow their shot after they
attempt a field goal. I can understand the
point guard not following his shot to get back
on defense but that is the only exception.
Next time you watch a game concentrate on the
shooter and what he does after he shoots. I
was taught this in third grade by my p.e.
coach.
2. The majority of players do not use the bank
shot near as much as they should. It is a
proven fact that using the backboard on
angled shots gives you a better chance of
making it.
I know there are more. Add to it.

Due to inflation, your 2 cents are now even more worthless.

Euroleagues are much better at teaching fundamentals. Just my opinion though.

Well your 3rd grade p.e. coach is a shitty coach fwiw...
Anyway, they don't rip through (explosive enough to not need to I guess?)
Most of them have horrible form on passes (again, don't need it bc of talent)
Some of them don't box out, but they're HUGE, they don't need to box out all the time.
The biggest thing I would say is hustle plays, like not crashing the glass

Following your shot is purely bitty basketball coaching. I will lose my mind on a kid if he pulls a 3 pointer from either wing or the top of the key and follows his shot. Coaches care much more about them getting their asses back on defense.
As far as NBA players and fundamentals. NBA players fundamentals are unreal good. You have no idea how many hours they spend in the gym working on them. Players shoot bank shots all the time by the way.

This. You may follow your shot in high school but in the NBA, you normally have four guys that are much taller, bigger and stronger than you that already have good enough position

They never set screens to get the ball inbounds when a team is pressing.. usually this results in a wasted timeout.

They never slap the floor on defense.

1). Those aren't fundamentals.
2). You must have been a shitty shooter. Good shooters expect their shots to go in and don't follow them.

This is why I watch the WNBA religiously. Fantastic fundamentals.

The only time I would follow my shot was when I knew I missed it.

You forgot Triple Threat Position.

If a few of them would work on making free throws (Karl Malone was crap coming out of college but ended up around 70%) they could get 4-5 more points a game.
Not everyone can shoot like Steve Nash or Dirk but not everyone has to be Dwight Howard either.

Yes the NBA has fundamentally gotten weaker over time, but what nobody realizes is that these guys spend hours upon hours working on fundamentals just to improve other aspects. Is it a shame that NBA players coast the entire regular season? your damn right, but in the NBA "fundamentals" are just not put to the test, why do very few PG's pressure the other teams PG's, because there is no point unless there is a real advanage. If anybody has ever seen an NBA player workout it is incredible just watching them.

Thank you. If they think NBA players offensive fundamentals are bad then they must not have watched much NCAA basketball. Freakin brick city, low shooting percentage, etc.
The NBA have the 24 sec shot clock so that's a part of the reason for a lot of the one on one or isolation. 24sec is a big difference when compared to the college 35sec. Takes almost 8-10 to get it past half court.
