It's revisionists history. Jordan lost playoff games. He lost playoff series. He didn't win a ring until his 6th or 7th year in the league (if I remember correctly). It wasn't until the Bulls hired a future hall of fame coach in Phil Jackson, got Scottie Pippen, etc...Even then, he needed guys like Paxon, Kerr, Rodman, etc.. to play their roles to make those epic runs.

I'm not saying LBJ doesn't need the same, but all the Jordan lovers act like he dropped 40 a night, highlight dunked on every play and won every game he ever played in.

Jordan is the best for now, but I strongly believe that once James' career is over, we will compare the two and realize the James was the more complete player (and could potentially be the greatest of all time).

Funny, Jordan had just as many at LBJ's current age....

he also had not been in the league as long, age should not be the common denominator, years in the league should.

If Lebron keeps this shite up will the non believers agree that he's the better at basketball than Kobe and Jordan?
He's already easily surpassed Kobe.

If he keeps up this year's production/efficiency for a few more seasons, one would be foolish to not at least entertain the argument of him over MJ.

True, but that's also 100% irrelevant to which player is better.

Lebron is on pace to be the second greatest ever IMO. Jordan is just marginally more efficient and successful.

Assuming Lebron has like five more great years and two good ones before retiring, then he probably be second. He could make a real case for GOAT, but he would have to maintain this level for a good bit.

Best players ever in 2020:
Jordan
Lebron
Kareem
Wilt
Magic
Kobe
Shaq
Bird
Russell
West
Duncan
Olajuwon
Durant
Robertson
Malone
Erving
Barkley
Paul

Or something like that. That is just real quick off the top of my head. I kind of gave up on order, but this roughly the top 20.

Well, how do you define Lebron's pace?

If he's just entering his prime and puts up 2012-2013 numbers for 4 or so more years, then a slight drop off before retiring with an otherwise normal career arc, he could certainly be equal to or slightly more efficient than MJ.

Then i'll excuse you for leaving off Wade.

The only shitty about going by age is the unfair disadvantage for some players. For me, it is most notably unfair for Kareem. He won 3 MVP awards in his first five years. If he was in the NBA at 18, it would not surprise me if he won one or two more

I think the best player by age is interesting.

Ages 25 and under:
Kareem (maybe wilt)

26 to 28:
Lebron

29 to 34:
Jordan

35 to 41:
Kareem

42+:
Greg Oden

that standard seems unfair in some ways. LBJ did get really good really fast in the NBA but he presumably would have been better his first year in the league if he went to college first.

Anyway, RE: the LBJ vs MJ comparison I just don't see the need to debate the "best ever" issue. I think MJ was the best of his era. LBJ appears headed to being the best of his era. Where people rank the two personally will ultimately mostly be a function of when they grew up and who they were closer in age to IMO

I am just guessing how he will end up. It is pure speculation. I don't really mean anything by it. I think the most amazing thing is that Jordan has better shooting percentages than Lebron (excluding threes). That is probably my biggest gap between them even though Lebron scores way more by driving. It really speaks to how insane Jordan was.

About Wade, frick him. I would put just about all of those guys above him.
