BBT question - how would Sheldon's life have been if Leonard had not moved in?

I know this is not exactly a Big Bang Theory friendly board, but what the heck.
When Leonard responded to the roomate add, Sheldon had just had a roomate leave while spray-painting "die Sheldon" on the wall. The neighbor across the hall was this huge cross dressing guy who called Sheldon "the crazy guy". I'm pretty sure he didn't know Rog or Howard then. He couldn't drive anywhere. He had pretty much no furniture. On the plus side, he did have a working elevator.
I think he may have ended up with an apartment full of cats.

If he's as brilliant as he's made out to be, the university would have hired someone to look after him.

The University would probably have hired him a personal assistant like Perception on TNT where the crazy professor is a consultant for the FBI. He'd be much further along in his research because he wouldn't have anyone to distract him with video games or comic books.

hes not though, he hasnt been successful AT ALL in his research. in fact, that jerk with the lisp is researching similar things and is apparently further ahead.
my guess is he would have ended up back in Texas with momma.

He probably could have found a roommate who met his qualifications, but not been as patient and understanding with him as Leonard. In turn that roomate would have probably lost it at some point and beaten the **** out of him.
