Agreed. His story is a good one. A statue is stupid.

Yep. Lived in the St Thomas projects and didnt graduate HS. Ended up building an empire as well as being a philanthropist. And he opened his home to thousands during X-Mas

He would show up weekly in his teens at my uncle's mother's for food and money to get through the week.

If the family wants to build the statue/stage, let them spend the money. I don't know why anyone should get upset about it.

He is burried in a gilded coffin for C's sake.

he was very charitable

not many people from new orleans can claim to build a worldwide empire.

I remember some of my military friends taking pictures at Popeyes in.....Kuwait..... think about that, compared to where Al started

Yeah, he had his good moments. He was generous. Gave all the kids and grandkids 100s for Offertory at Mass.

Is the family going to pay for upkeep for the rest of eternity?

I just generally think statues are silly, especially when it is the family pushing for it. Ever heard of being humble? Did Steve Gleason push for his statue? I would probably have a different opinion if some other group or organization was pushing for it and not the family.

It's very gaudy and very fitting of Al Copeland. There is also something irretrievably New Orleans in its makeup.

This is how I feel. Lots of childhood memories of his boats, hoes, cars, homes, and chickens. Lafreniere Park is a dumb place for it. I don't care if all is xmas lights are there. Put it down in Arabi.
