Is this considered one of their best teams? They had a team in the mid-90s that was top 5 in the country.

and lost to a unheralded jesuit team in playoffs...

Anything can happen in one game in baseball. However, Barbe has definitely benefited from the one-game approach taken by the LHSAA over the years.

Barbe's principal was one of the top advocates for the split. They couldn't beat Rummel in the Dome. No mention of Barbe beating Rummel in the baseball finals though.

Regardless, in the public school system, it's not a "choice."

Of course it is. Parents are free to choose where they live, notwithstanding certain monetary constraints.

Yea check how many 10 yr old and up slc baseball teams have won state championships. Now ill admit they may get a kid or two move into the area but they also lose some to St. Louis and others just move away.

I stand corrected

And, FWIW, which is little, if anything, my opinion is that schools situated such as Barbe are not hurt by private schools. Barbe has the talent and resources to compete with anybody in the state. It's the public schools in the lower classes that are forced to compete with John Curtis, Evangel etc. that are getting the short end of the stick.

Maybe...although Glen's approach to ride his stud pitchers in the playoffs would have to be altered, which completely changes the program's approach to the playoffs

Barbe's biggest adversary has always been WM. Every time they've had a great team WM has sent them home. Barring the miracle 2 minutes this past year it would've been the same again. Private schools get a bad rep because of Curtis and Evangel. Outside of them and Parkview baseball there really aren't any dominant private schools. I say put them all in 5A and battle it out. Sure Evangel beat WM, but they were GREAT games. Each team delivered a beating to the other. Outside of those games, the difference was 6, 7, 1, and 11. The 11 point game WM went for it down 4 late in there own territory and Evangel added a late score to make it look worse. WM and Curtis only played once and WM won 26-7. I'd love to see more battles than watering down the system.

Was that the Barbe team with Joe Lawrence? They were loaded that year (I think they had 3 or 4 LSU signees), but I think you're right if my memory is correct - Jesuit pounded the ball in that game and scored like 14 runs.

"State" is a loose term as no one plays Little League in LA. USSSA and Dixie are the kings of baseball here. Those titles go to teams from the North or North Shore more often than not.

Great program, but we've always seemed to have their number in our age group. Nephew no hit them in Baton Rouge a few years ago.

Great group of kids and parents in my experience. Talented bunch that can play with pretty much anyone in the country.
