I was blessed with Marcus Spears and Shyrone Carey. Complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Marcus came in suit and tie for all his speeches

OP, you been watching sports long? Jocks are not known for their oratory skills. Even the smart ones give shitty off-the-cuff interviews. You know, man?

it's not just that these kids speak a certain way coming up, it's their refusal to improve as they get out into the real world

It is very frustrating that in a modern age of tv and Internet and easy transportation that people cling to being low class or at least sounding low class. There's no excuse anymore to remain thug or white trash or speak like a moron. It's like the white trash house on the corner from me--why the Xmas lights year round? And the general dumpiness when all the houses around them are nice? Drives me nuts. Same thing that applies to the religious kooks overseas or the chinamen who still think a piece of rhino horn will give them a boner.

Get over it. Life's too short to trouble yourself with such trifling things.

If it bothers you to your core, try to solve the problem. If it just nags you but not enough to actually act on it, just let it go.

I'd honestly like half the people that posted in this thread to make a video of themselves answering questions off the cuff. I'm pretty sure most of them would be pretty laughable.

They aren't professional public speakers, and many of them use different regional diction than you. I know this may be difficult to understand, but most people in this country do not speak SAE on a regular basis.

Sure some of these guys are not the most eloquent, but once again they are not professional speakers.

WTF?! Am I the only one catching the irony of this last sentence from the OP?

He's completely bungled the wording. He's not providing 2 options. If he's wrong, then it is an acceptable way to speak.

Or implies 2 options. He essentially leaves us with one. All the while, complaining about Mathieu's language.

Yes, I think it's the new accepted way of writing to end questions with periods now. The pervasiveness of hood language has rendered question marks obsolete.

If you can understand more than 50% of the post on these boards, you should be able make out what TM7 is saying in an interview.

Was it Anthony Wilson that gave the gawd awful interview after making that last second shot in the ncaa tourney in the 80s? There was some Dale Brown coached player that barely was coherent after winning a game, and there was a struggle from the coaches to get they guy away from the cameras because he was barely understandable. I remember people joking about it for years after, even though they hero-worshiped the guy for what he did on court.

IMO, these guys are not brought to LSU to speak well, they're given schollies to play ball. Stick a camera in my face (or yours) and I can guarantee you there will be a lot of 'ummmmms' and 'uuuuhhhhhhs' in there. And public speaking skills aren't something that can be easily picked up.

TLDR version = who gives a frick how they talk in front of a camera if they can play?

How about public speaking and social etiquette at college gathering spots.

No commas or correct punctuation either

Public speaking isn't exactly easy. I watched people butcher speeches in front of 25 person classes

Imagine addressing the nation. Can be a bit nerve rattling.

Yeah public speaking isn't easy esp for young people. TM7 is still one of my favorite players.

At very minimum, they should be drilled to death on how to get through a 10, 20 or 30 second interview without saying "You know" "Most definitely" and "I mean really" after every other word. It's not that hard to get through a short media interview. LSU should make every athlete take an "Interview Skills" class during the season and make them practice public speaking with a speech pathologist. If I were the head coach, I'd make it a requirement several times a week.

I am more concerned that Miles has so much difficulty putting together coherent sentences on national tv.

If you saw him on nfl channel during the draft, he was pretty painful to watch. In comparison, I thought David Shaw (I think that is the name of Stanford's coach) came across as knowledgeable and articulate.

It's not like they were trying to get inside information about a game plan or inside info on injuries. Just a casual discussion about the players being drafted.
