We typecast him as Captain Picard (much better than Kirk..lol) and Professor X. But the Dude has range.

I caught this video of him and Arya Stark, and found his range in it to be very good.

I just don't think American audiences see him as a true method actor.

Shame.

He was very good in his role as the villain in "Conspiracy Theory" with Mel Gibson & Julia Roberts.

I always thought of him as more of a classically trained stage actor, not so much a method actor.

talking out of my arse because I found that video after looking at the Huey Lewis one, and wanted to post the video of him and Arya Stark, but fearing that it may be Germans I started a Patrick Stewart thread instead.
Too many GOT threads anyway. lol

yup. I think Shatner is hilarious, but it isn't because he is a good actor. I don't think it's even debatable that Stewart was better as captain of the Enterprise.

both endangered their ships a lot. But Picard's actions as Locutus of Borg killed Millions if not Billions. He also risked his entire crew's lives within an hour of taking on command, in the series finale.

But then again, Kirk is the only captain to defeat the Kobayashi Maru.
It's a push, I'll take Malcom Reynolds instead.

He was hilarious playing himself in Extras.

And FWIW, I'll take Captain Picard as my leader in everything but battle. When it comes to war, I'm on Sisko's team. fricker doesn't know how to take a prisoner.
