You're gonna be one of those guys defending how underrated vaccarro is because even great safeties rarely make the same impact as great OLBs.

What does this even mean?

I'm not defending shite. I am saying it's absolutely stupid to say a guy would be a bad pick if he has significant success in the NFL simply because your panties are in a wad that they didn't take the guy YOU wanted.

That's the difference in value. Pass rushers are a premium commodity. Average safeties (not even KV's biggest supporters think he's special) are not.

Who was the premium pass rusher that lead our defense to the superbowl win? Your entire premise is based on an assumption of Jones being a legit pass rusher or even better than our promising young pass rushers . Going to be so awesome to see all of the crow served up in the future.

1. I have been pretty rough on him, and honestly how his pick is viewed will be out of his hands. If Jones turns out to be extremely good then we will view it as a waste. If none of our LBs pan out he will be considered a waste. Basically he has to be much better than Jones for me to consider him a good pick.

2. I dont think he is a game changer. Mostly because he wasn't in college and I don't see many aspects of his game that make him a super game changer. MAybe a scheme change will put him in better position, but I don't see it.

3. Apparently he is a bit of a retard off the field. He has a few misdemeanors for just being stupid. Getting arrested for a fight at the texas rec, and arrested for refusing to leave a line at t a pizza place. Just dumb stuff.

Thanks for the update.

re: My Thoughts on KV

Actually, now that I think about some of the posts I've read, there's absolutely nothing Vaccaro can do (realistically) to satisfy those posters. He's in an impossible situation as far as their opinion is concerned. Why? Because he's not an OLB who brings a pass rush. He's not the Jarvis Jones that some posters had their heads (regardless of what the real Jarvis Jones does in Pittsburgh). And, apparently, there are no conceivable circumstances under which this staff should use the 15th pick on a safety, regardless of performance in this coming season.

The good thing is that if he turns out to be an 8 or so year starter making a substantial contribution to a championship caliber team it won't matter.

Either way there will be crow. I want like a five year signature bet but i don't remember these kind of things.

I love how these guys here view the Vaccaro pick not as a vote of confidence in our two incumbent and one new pass rusher but as a failure in talent evaluation.

Got to love our fellow Saints fans.

Get over it . J Jones is not with Saints and Vaccaro is.
Vaccaro is the one we all will be cheering for on Sundays.
He deserves 100% of our support.

For me it's about the value. KV will be good or he won't...IDGAF. I just find our FO's approach to drafting defense frustrating.

just like malcolm jenkins, and roman harper?
This board will get boring pretty quick if all we do is support everything about the team.

I'm ready to throw the towel in on Vaccaro myself. It's almost May and he's yet to intercept one pass. Freaking Malcolm Jenkin's Jr.

re: My Thoughts on KV

I think the Saints tried to address a need amongst many needs.

I wanted Jarvis Jones because I personally thought a pass-rushing OLB was the Saints' most pressing need, but the safety position has been, at best, an ineffective group since 2010. It needed attention.

I don't know if Jones or Vaccaro will be studs or duds. What if Jamie Collins becomes the next Derrick Thomas? Why limit the comparison of Vaccaro to just Jones? What about the remaining 239 propsects the Saints chose not to draft at #15?

All that will matter is whether the addition of Vaccaro directly makes the Saints defense better or doesn't. If he doesn't, he's a waste. If he does, the Saints are a better team today than they were yesterday.

Personally, I think he could be a stud. He may not turn into a play-maker in the style of Ed Reed, but I believe he could situationally line up at FS, SS, or NB and take away an option for an opposing QB which could lead indirectly to punts or sacks/INT's/forced-fumbles by other Saints. I think he has the athleticism to limit gains by a WR or RB in space which can lead to punts. I think he has the physicality & instincts to be a stopper in run support which could lead to more 3rd & long's. I think he could surprise us with his ball skills when he gets more time in centerfield.

Since no one knows the future, it's a leap of faith, but I believe Vaccaro could help the Saints defense get the ball back to Drew Brees, which is exactly what I would have asked of Jarvis Jones had we drafted him.

re: My Thoughts on KV

What's getting old are all these posts explaining that they are either "coming to terms with the selection" or are offering their "take on the pick."

And what's sad is the vast amount of Saints "fans" now hoping Vacarro is a bust so they can rush to the computer and let us all know they "told us so."

re: My Thoughts on KV

The way I see it. Jones could have been a bust in our system as much as KV can be. Instead, he's going to arguably the best defense in the past decade. Its like saying eric reid has a better year than KV that means he's better. Chances are KV will be worse because he doesn't have a proven aldon smith infront of him making the QB do stupid mistakes. team composition plays a large role in development too. Do you think colston/moore would be anyone if he started with miami?

we have unproven OLBs, but they have shown flashes of talent that they CAN do well in the right system. We have no starter or backup at safety that can do well. KV pick is a good one, worst duo/bottom 2 rated safeties in the league, they're both on our team.

Sorry but didn't Malcolm Jenkins used to show flashes?

What we know about Victor Butler is he isn't as good as Anthony Spencer or Demarcus Ware. so we know his ceiling.

Payton said they were choosing between 2 players
at 15. How do we know the other was J Jones.
Maybe the medical staff didn't clear him and they
were deciding bet Vacarro and Floyd.

I thought he said they had two choices they wanted on the board and one of the picks at #13/14 selected their other choice

In my mind, I never saw any flash for jenkins when he was a safety. I saw hustle after getting beat on a play and that's about it.

As for butler, his ceiling is potentially just as high as spencer's. As for junior and tez, we don't know. Tez showed flashes a couple years ago in the playoffs he could be a 10+ sack guy as a OLB. We just don't know that's the draft though. no one is PROVEN

not one person has said this. This is getting out of hand. Are we just going to start making up shit? Some people don't like the pick, DWI.
