Who here does this? I've never been but two things I know in talking to others who do is that: 1/ You can catch a lot of fish when they're running and 2/ You work your arse off doing it.

I'd love to see picks of the rigs used and catches from it, if anyone has them.

We used to do this at the Darbone Dam back when I was in college. Basically some big treble hooks tied about 2 foot apart with a big weight on bottom. Throw it over the dam and start jerking. Caugt some nice stripers like that and had a blast! Check regs before doing it though.

How exactly do you snag? Just cast over and over and keep jerking the shite outta the rod?

Pretty much. When on top of damn you could just drop it over let it sink and then start jerking rod. A big striper foul hooked pulls hard!

Legal and illegal, depending on what and where.

Pics......nah, I plead the fifth.

I do know that Flossing is another term for snagging salmon.

6-8 foot leader with glow balls.

Was told in Alaska they call it the Eskimo jerk.

Legal here if snagged from the gills up.

Point of flossing, salmon see the glow balls and get interested and you floss em in the mouth etc..

I'll take that back, it's legal with restrictions in some areas. Just not around here. It is occasionally opened for snagging in saltwater, but never in fresh.

Went down to the lock & dam in Gainesville, AL a couple weekends ago to catch some shad. Between casts of the net, I'd watch a group of guys "snagging" from the bank. Over the course of about 2 hours, they caught multiple catfish that weighed 20+ lbs, and about a 6ft long paddle fish.

Looked like a blast, but they were burning some serious calories

used to do this in catfish ponds. took a big treble hook took some 50-60lb test line and ran around hooks then tied biggest weight I could find. definitely alot of work, but was fun and could catch a mess of fish when they wouldn't bite!

Have been snagging spoonbill and carp on the Demoines river several times. There's a Hydro Dam in my wifes old home town of Ottumwa,Iowa where it can be done legally. Have caught spoonbill over 80#. LINK
