Terron Armstead
HT: 6'5" WT: 306LBS.
POSITION: OT
SCHOOL: Arkansas-Pine Bluff
ARM LENGTH: 34"

quote:

Armstead has been a fast riser in the postseason process. He's got an intriguing athletic skill set. Despite facing sub-par competition in season, he's shown the ability to be a good pass protector, and contribute as a run blocker. He can likely stay outside, although some teams might see him as a guard. He could find himself as a Day 2 pick before all is said and done.

quote:

Compares to: Joe Staley, OT, San Francisco 49ers -- Savvy scouts had been watching Staley dominate the MAC for years but he didn't really begin earning national attention until a strong effort at the Senior Bowl and dazzling workout at the 2007 Combine. Should Armstead commit to the game with the intensity that Staley has, he too could wind up emerging as an upper-echelon blindside tackle in the NFL.

quote:

04/21/13 - ROB RANG'S 2013 NFL DRAFT DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH: Terron Armstead, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 6-5, 306, 4.65 ... The dazzling straight-line speed Armstead demonstrated at the combine caught the public by surprise but not scouts who saw him dominate competition at the East-West Shrine Game and impress as a late injury replacement at the Senior Bowl, as well. Unlike many small school prospects who simply latch on with whatever program will give them an opportunity, Armstead was recruited by a number of big schools, opting to play with Golden Lions because they were the only team willing to let him compete in track, as well as football. Highly intelligent, a remarkable athlete and having demonstrated the ability to raise his level of play against elite competition, Armstead could earn a shockingly high draft selection.

Love this pick. Looks like another stud lineman stolen in the mid rounds. I'd heard of him before but after reading all this, he looks like a stud with him being at a small school being his only knock.

BOOM!!!

Just watched some of his videos... Could be the steal of the draft.

What's the story? Why did he go to such a shitty school? Transfer?

He knew the head coach, ex-Redskin Monte Coleman, plus Arkansas Pine-Bluff was the only school that promised him he could play football and track. He was all-conference in track while at APB.

Makes sense.

Nope. It was the only school that would allow him to do track as well. I'm assuming he was a thrower of something.

Armstead wasn't only a very good football player in high school, but he was also a key part of a record-setting championship track and field team. In his senior year of high school, Armstead led the team with a toss of 62 feet, 3 inches in the shot put. Armstead received several Division I football scholarship offers coming out of high school, but elected to attend Arkansas-Pine Bluff because his coach, former Redskins linebacker Monte Coleman, was the only one that would allow him to also participate in track and field. Armstead not only managed to be a three-time All-SWAC football player, but also an eight-time SWAC champ in track and field.

Sounds like he knew what he wanted to do and set out to do it.
