I thought you were talking about the Larry Clark Bully starring Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl..an equally fricked up movie.

I agree. That movie is quite disturbing.

Synopsis
quote:
Exploring the subject of school bullying from a personal angle, this eye-opening documentary tracks the stories of five different families whose children are struggling to defend themselves on a near-daily basis.
quote:
A powerful and moving portrait of several kids being bullied and some of the serious consequences which result from bullying. This film is a slice of the many children around the world who have been bullied. Some schools reaction to reported abuses may disgust you as this film is sure to inspire many to get involved in recognizing and ending bullying. This film demands to be seen! My only hope is that director Lee Hirsch continues to cover more tragic cases of this terrible problem. On another note, this film should not be R-rated and it is absolutely out of line for the MPAA to hold on to that harsh rating. This needs to be shown in schools!

Yep a lot of that shite was way over the top. Though it makes me feel silly wanting to punch some of those kids being an adult.

Cliffs?
It is a documentary about bullying, particulary bullying in schools, and how the schools turn a blind eye and refuse to acknowledge the severity of the problem despite the emotional distress it is causing the severely bullied.
It follows the lives of a couple of students that have to deal with bullying every day and as well as a couple of parents whose children committed suicide due to the bullying that they received.
It is, of course, a very small sample size, but the denial that some of these schools live in is truly astounding.

Yeah, I debated saying that. I would like to smack 'em on the head though and tell them to act right.

Its amazing schools don't deal with some of this shite and turn a blind eye, yet we have kindergartners getting suspended at other schools for eating a pop tart into the shape of a gun.

This kind of stuff doesn't make sense to me either.
It seems like it should be fairly easy to differentiate between "kids being kids" and some sort of legitimate threat.
Kindergartener eating poptart into gun = okay
Kids hitting a kid in the back of the head on the bus until he cries and then making fun of him for crying on a daily basis both at school and on social media causing the kid massive grief = not okay

My son is in kinder and I worry a little. He's a really good, respectful, and caring kid. He's also shy. I worry he'll be a target bc of that. I've already talked to him and told him I'd never be mad at him if he stood up for himself and fought back if some kid put a hand on him no matter what the school says. Same goes if he steps up for another kid.
Sometimes that's all it takes.

I was always the kind of person who stepped up for those that were bullied.
Sometimes you get crap for it, but it's the decent thing to do.
I went to a small school, but some of the most popular kids at my school were also some of the most decent people.
I don't have children, but I think respect for others is probably THE most important thing that can be taught. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

In my opinion kids to be told to stand up for classmates and themselves. This "Don't take matters into your own hands, go find an adult" stuff is not teaching kids to deal with their own problems. Of course adults should get involve should things get out of hand.

I can agree with that sentiment, as well.
I think the biggest issue that I have is in those situations where adults do need to get involved and the kid is unable to get help that they need for whatever reason whether it be misunderstanding, apathy, or any other reason that would prevent someone from stepping in when they need to.

The only time I was bullied was in the fourth grade when a sixth grader, out of the blue, kneed me in the crotch. It hurt so bad I threw up. My brother, who was his age, beat the crap out of him on the school grounds after school let out. I don't remember if they got caught fighting.
I got in fights myself all the way through high school. This was in a two red light town back in the 70's. We always fought away from school. We'd meet somewhere like the football stadium at a set time. Both guys would show up with a friend or two. Nobody else got into it. If one guy started to really hurt the other one, the fight would get broken up. That's usually how they ended.
When I turned 18 I knew I'd get put in jail for it so I just never did it again.

this movie makes me not want to have kids. Same holds true for the movie Bully by Larry Clark.

This thread posted on the OT would get a lot of denial, comments that it's a part of growing up, and that the bullied individuals should grow a pair,
