Do you guys ever really listen and catch the meaning behind a particular song?

Or do you listen just because it sounds good?
i usually just listen cause it sounds good, but on long drives, i usually try to tune into them a little more, due to boredom, to see what the lyrics actually mean.

The sounds grabs me. Once I know I like it, I concern myself with the lyrics. Unless it's a band like Pixies or Breeders where I know they won't matter.

Little of both.
I'm with the fella that said he listens to the music and hears the lyrics.
My ex-wife was all about lyrics, if you ask me though lyrics would be nothing without the music.
Great music does not require good lyrics. Great music, however, does require great (for lack of a better word) music.

I love digging into the lyrics. The best part of music for me

Don't really care about the lyrics at all. Its the sound as a whole I am listening too. Sure, sometimes I'll try and pick up a meaning to it all, but I don't live and die by the lyrics.

There's nothing I like better than a really clever lyric

I recently had to explain to someone the real meaning behind Kendrick Lamar's song "Swimming Pools". They didn't realize it was a song about alcohol abuse.

It's the music that attracts you, but the lyrics, meaning and mood that keeps you.

Lyrics are very important, but not absolutely necessary...
I love listening to someone like Jay Farrar's lyrics and understanding the meaning... But wont waste a single ounce of time on the lyrics of a Stephen Malkmus song, but I love listening to them...

Charge it like a puzzle, hit me wearin' muzzles
Hesitate to die, look around, around, the second drummer's drowned
His telephone is found

I'm sure there is meaning in there, but I'm not gonna try to decipher...
Maybe if I ever started smoking the pot again..
