Payton says he expects Vaccaro to immediately play nickel & both safety spots

Payton said the Saints liked Vaccaro's "high football I.Q." and the versatility he demonstrated at Texas, where he often was forced to cover slot receivers as a nickel back would because of the amount of spread offenses the Longhorn faced in the Big 12.
"That versatility is unique and something that I think is beneficial," Payton said
While his five career interceptions seemed a little low for the top safety selected in the draft, Vaccaro and Payton both said that was because of how often Vaccaro was asked to cover inside receivers, assignments that made it tough for him to keep his eyes on the quarterback and anticipate throws.
"I was always the nickel. A lot of times an interception was thrown because I was locking up the slot receiver on the other side of the field," Vaccaro said, noting that Texas initially offered him a scholarship to play receiver.

I wasn't thrilled with the pick when his named was called. Not because I think he is a bad player, but mainly he wasn't who I wanted the Saints to pick with their first. Now looking at the pick I think it was a great pick. There were so many times last years where our DB's and safeties were burned or just out of position. I think he will be a great addition to the defense. There is no player on this D outside of Lofton and Jordan that didn't need to be upgraded. So whether we picked Vocaro or Jones it was a win-win situation for our defense.

We used the # 15 pick on a nickel. Yay!

Kenny probably won't be an all pro. He can be a better than average NFL safety though. Has a mean streak and versatile. Excelled in a pass happy conference against some great QBs.
I'll say one last thing about KV.
Times have been tough at Texas the last three seasons. KV always seemed above that and gave 100% where other guys got lazy or just waited on the draft. A bright spot during some bad seasons.

Not only that, but "Kenny Vaccaro" is a name that you'd expect from someone in Kennabrah. He'll fit in nicely in the black and gold.
