What does AMC have against likeable leading ladies?

Having already been a fan of Breaking Bad and Walking Dead, I recently started rolling through Mad Men on Netflix. I'm just about to finish up season 3 and have realized this trend among these three shows.
Skylar, Laurie, and Betty are three of the most unlikeable, unrelatable, annoying characters on television. What's the deal? I cringe whenever these characters have air time and really kills the episode for me. Do they feel the need to have these kind of characters to balance the show out? It's insufferable at times

Peggy is more of a leading lady.
I think it's just popular to make girls more unlikeable, especially when their husbands are gonna cheat on them.

the most unlikable person on Mad Men is a dude.
Pete is a straight up scumbag who needs to catch a serious beating.

I don't think Skyler White is that unlikeable. Walter put her in a horrible position. He lied to her about his whereabouts for months and he made crystal meth. He put her life and well-being (and the lives and well-being of two children) at risk. shite, he could ruin Hank's career.
Your husband does those things to you, I think you get the right to bang your boss and act bitchy to him.

Skylars biggest issue is that she gets uglier every episode.
I feel she acts like most people would act given her circumstances.....aside from the ugliness.

Betty isn't Mad Men's leading lady. That would be Joan and Peggy.

I think Joan and Peggy are fairly likeable.
Betty sucks though.
