re: NBA's MIP Award

Like most of these individual awards, how your team does plays a part. George's improved production may not be better than anyone else's, but he became leader of a team that is a 3 seed and the guy he took the leadership role from is considered an All Star level player even though he hasn't played like one in a while. Vasquez stepped up his game and lead the Hornets to #5 in the Lottery.

This. All of this. His #s might not of improved as much as others, but its the fact he went from a 2nd year guy who had flashes of being an all star, to being the go to guy and an all star for the #3 seed in the east and brought it every night. Not to mention Danny Granger missed all but 5 games this year, so the Pacers leaned heavily on George. Now, Granger is strictly a role player for them. And going from 12/5/2 to 17/ 7/ 4 is pretty damn good improvement. Also had 23 double doubles and was 9th in the NBA in steals. Not to mention when they played the Heat he and LBJ guarded each other the entire game, and George held his own vs LBJ on both ends of the court as good as anybody in the league has recently. LBJ even said after the game the biggest difference with the Pacers this year is due to the improvement in Paul George's game and he's def an all star.

I think George def earned this.

Well, just keep up with the personal enmity Jester and HB. It serves no purpose.

Name calling and the little pictures just highlight the lack of actual counterargument . . . again . . . and again.

When you act like an arrogant douche, I will call you out. Your self-righteous bull shite is transparent.

Again, why can't you celebrate recognition of hard work and improvement by one of our best players? Why tear it down?

More of the same.

There was no tearing down. There was no arrogance. There was no self-righteousness.

I see nothing in what you are saying that even responds to anything about the topic I posted, just knocks on how you choose to fill the empty spaces in my comments.

Settle down and talk Vasquez.

No need to congratulate for a meaningless award (especially when we don't for coming in second in a meaningful game), but who is tearing anyone down? I just parsed the data. Others bashed him, saying he wasn't even fifth or whatever. I also noted, and it was supported, that the recipient often is not who made the most progress this year.

Things may be a little better here if less negativity is assigned to my posts with no reason.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong here

What is incorrect?

ETA: Just pick one thing to discuss, then we can tear the rest of it apart.

To say that its all meaningless. First of all, no awards are meaningless, though this one is the most vague when it comes to criteria.

The only reason he didn't win the award is that the Hornets sucked this year

I disagree with this. Many a player improves more than the person who wins. corndeaux gave examples.

Either way, we disagree. I stop short at calling either of us factually wrong since this is an assessment according to some certainly vague and possibly changing criteria by the selectors. That last bit we agree on. You say that vague award is meaningful, I say the benefit is vague at best. Taste?

Speculation, but reasonable.

ETA: Fixed the quotes

That still doesn't mean its a meaningless award. He was regarded nationally as one of the most improved players in the league this year, he would have only gotten more recognition if, say, he played alongside a healthy and productive Eric Gordon all year long

It does not make it meaningful when it's vague and has a history of being debated because of said vague criteria, just like the MVP.

We are simply disagreeing on if a bunch of writers voting on guys they don't watch that much, in part, means something.

I agree that he improved a ton and is great at some things, as I've gone out of my way to not only tout, but to compile data and present that he has consistently been among the elite passers in the NBA. In fact his AST% is behind only that of Rondo and Paul. That is not a complete picture, but racking up that stat in his heavy minutes is very impressive. Beyond that, he was a key part in many wins. He has issues, like most other players. He may or may not fit with a reconstituted Pelicans team this Fall, but he has a place in the NBA.

I just don't put much stock in these awards.

For what it is worth, I don't put much stock in draft position an many other things either.

ETA: In short, why does dismissing one award he did not win on one day count as bashing him in the presence consistent public acknowledgement of what he does well for this franchise?
