X factor for Les Miles coached teams.

I've noticed over the years that it seems like when LSU is being counted out (after an ugly loss, when media counts them out) Les Miles coached teams seem to respond. Like this year against South Carolina or in 2010 against Alabama. It seems like about the time you give up on them they play their best. Is this a credit Miles deserves?
P.s. I think this bodes well for us this year. We're basically an afterthought.

Before 2011 we were too young on defense to compete and had too tough a schedule to be a factor
Sound familar?

It sounds familiar, but as an LSU fan and knowing a lot more about the team than the average analyst it honestly just is not the same situation. We had just blew A&M out in the bowl game. We had a young safety and corner who we knew were going to be all american like.We also knew we had a special player in Mathieu. I don't know about everyone else, but I was pretty sure we would have a DOMINANT defense and a pretty steady offense. The defense coming back this season just does not compare and who the hell really and truly knows what we will see on offense. I believe we go 11-1 or 10-2 and look on to a championship next year. Comparing the hopes for 2013 and 2011 is just unfair.

In the last 10 years LSU is number two for wins. Second only to Boise State.
Only a fool or some slow witted LSU fans would ever count LSU out.

I also notice two things other things
1. We have lost a couple of games we should have won
2. We have lost the mental edge to Alabama.
Let's not look backwards - Let's look toward the 2013-14 Season

What is the reason for the "ugly losses"?

I expect different problems to plague LSU as it rolls to a 2010-like finish. The offense won't be the issue, it'll be the defense with all the young guys. The Tigers take their lumps this year with Alabama and Georgia on the road.
2014 is our year. Alabama steps back after 2013, Texas A&M likely loses Johnny Manziel and definitely loses some of their returning linemen, and unless there are some serious scheduling shenanigans, our schedule should be easier (I'd have trouble imagining that we'll play a harder schedule than this year, for certain).

you must not have watched the 2012 game then. LSU hasn't lost anything to Alabama. We just didn't have a defense that could close anyone out last year.

I, for one, am not jumping ship in the D. The reason we failed to close anyone out last yr may have been echoed with the comment, "effort was not needed". The D of 2012 did not have that killer instinct of 2011. We saw it early on with allowing teams to hang around. We saw it all yr in Reid's poor angles and lackluster tackling. We saw Sam sometimes dominate and then disappear for large chunks of games. If Loston try shows up with his head screwed on straight, he and whomever the opposite safety is, makes our secondary better. I like the Jalens at CB. Simon had a so so yr. minter is a big loss, but that can be "neutralized" by moving Barrow to middle and having Kwon outside (IMO). Hunter & Rasco are ready and you won't find an interior any more formiddable that ego & freak. I am concerned about our d line depth, at least until we see the FNG's this fall. Offense WILL improve. We'll find out a lot in Arlington. Uga will be tough, but I think we approach October undefeated. Lets just keep "laying in the weeds".

Has anybody thought about the offense being much improved so the defense doesn't have to be the steel curtain so to speak?

the defense may not be quite as stout, but there is enough talent there...just not much experience. Not overly worried assuming the offense improves. Kicking game is the big worry this year. I don't think we've seen near this level of uncertainty since Miles has been here.

It was pretty sad when Saban said after that game, "We knew what they would do on that last drive defensively because they did the same thing against aTm earlier in the season."

I am still positive but in all honesty, with our schedule I think we go 8&4.

Perhaps. But was our ranking going into 2007? I want to say it was #2 in the nation, which is where the Tigers finished the regular season en route to a NC. Pretty much the same in 2011, right, except we had a better regular season and spit the bit in the NC game.

Painful but this wouldn't surprise me. BAMA, GA, TAM, and one other road game we should win but don't, i.e. Moo St., OM. 10 wins for this team on the rebuild would be a high achievement in my book.

Its a fact that Miles-coached teams absolutely thrive when short guessed

2014 is our year
