Why don't the spring games pit 1s against 1s?

I don't really get the logic in having the starters play against second-stringers or walk-ons. Seems like you would learn more about your team by having the first-string offense play the first-string defense and second-string offense play second-string defense.

So both 1's look good against the 2's to have something to be excited about.

Most other teams 1's look like our 2's.

So we are just preparing our 1's for other teams 1's.

I actually agree. One team has first team O and second team D while the other team is made up of second team O and first team D. 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2. You then split the backups between the two teams.

Coaches take more stock into the 3 weeks of spring practice than they do one two hour long scrimmage thats more for the fans than anything else

Theyve seem plenty of 1 v 1 action in Spring

I thought we did play the 1s vs 1s. Guess you learn something new everyday. Yeah make no sense!

They should, otherwise, it is just waste of time and misleading performance statistics.

It is for fans to get excited so they can post meaningless stats on online message boards.

Really though, those games are to build fan excitement only.

spring game is more about putting what the players learned during spring practice into action and less about seeing who is the best. my guess.

Then have a real fricking game with the current team going against a squad of alumni football players and play it a night! Fans would eat that up and the AD would make money selling tickets.

Jemarcus could have played for his comeback, with JJ As the change of pace QB. Just joking
