Because I disagree with the masses on here and am suggesting getting positions of need outside of OLB?

Suggesting Reid at 15? Come on man.

quote:

We have 3 very high potential OLBs already that are young.

Agreed. OLB is not our only need and I can see them being happy with group that now includes Butler.
quote:

We have two aging WRs and two unproven guys.

Saints are not going WR at 15.

I'm just giving you grief, but your scenarios are a little wacky. I'm just really hoping the Saints get Jones, but I would not be completely surprised if the Saints didn't take him if he was there. I would be disappointed though.

I don't think people are seeing the scenario because we would go Vaccarro or Cyrpien well before we went Reid at 15... No one else is taking him in the top 25. Even if we were crazy about him we could still get him in the event of an "unlikely" trade back. And there's 0 chance we pass on Jones if he is available. ZERO. (I think...)

Not everyone ranks the players the same. They said they are real high on Reid and I believe that. If we don't trade down and there isn't another player they like a whole lot more than him, they'll take him.

Just because all these draft "experts" have Vaccaro far and away the best safety doesn't mean that's what teams think. That's why you see so many "surprise" picks every single year.

Teams will take who they have on their board, not what they think other teams have on theirs.

It's happened before. See Meachem/Robinson.

That was different though because we got Meachem at 27 and Robinson at 32. At that point we were straight BPA. Earlier in the draft it is a combo of Need/BPA.

I'd rather Cyprien over Vaccaro FWIW

Did you watch Reid play this past season? If the Saints take him at 15, they will have really screwed that one up.

this is the biggest thing I dislike about this time of year. Just because Mel fricking Kiper thinks its a surprise doesn't mean it is a surprise. Especially lately with all of the film that is available for all of these kids. I bet we'd shite a brick if we saw their big board right now...same with many teams.

Fwiw I didn't think Meachem or Robinson were bpa at the time. I was completely wtf at both picks

I'd rather Cyprien over Vaccaro also.

But if we are talking a combo of need/bpa, I think OLB would be out because they have bigger needs elsewhere. Before we had Butler it was a slight need.

I have LT(highest need by far), WR, CB, and Safety all as needs. DL and OLB are wants.

Exactly my point when it comes to listening to the "experts" and different teams having different boards.

And clearly the Saints were wrong about either being BPA. They were more like 3rd round talents.

Wr=Tavon Austin
Cb=Jonathan Banks or Xavier Rhodes
Safety=Vacarro, Cyprien, or Reid
LT=Reach at 15 if big 3 are gone.
Take your pick.

I don't see corner as a huge need right now. I agree that LT is our biggest glaring need that I would like to see filled. I'm very optimistic about the OLBs, and hicks/cam combo though. I honestly think a playmaking safety vet or rookie would help the defense more than any other addition at this point.

Well taking the 2011 draft for example, it was my understanding from what I heard that the Saints had Jordan as a top 10 overall player and he was one spot ahead of Ingram, so at 28 when he was still there we made a move for him. Take it with a grain of salt. Just basing it off of our draft history under Payton.

I have Austin gone before our pick so I went with Patterson but I also wouldn't be shocked with another WR.

Banks is still on the board, but I really don't have a clue how the Saints would rank the CBs.

I think the Saints are higher on Reid than the other safeties. I think he could fill either role decently.

And despite LT being a huge need, I really hope the don't reach for one as that would be way worse than going bpa.

I think Jones is possible as a straight bpa pick but certainly not as a need pick.

Not a huge need but a possible slight need. You need 3 legit starters in today's NFL so it really depends on how they view PRob an White going forward.

Kind of the same for WR. You need at least 3 starters an we only have 2 sure ones(Morgan sure looks promising though).

I agree that outside of LT, a play making safety would make the biggest difference of any position and certainly the biggest on D. We already have potential at DE, DT, and OLB. ILB is covered with 3 vets.

I thought you were better than this. One of the big 3 LTs is the only thing that a trade up could be justified for.

Nobody in this draft besides Star is worth trading up for. Just because there are three OT that are better than the other OTs available don't make them great. Definitely not worth trading up for.

Tank Carradine visits undisclose NFL South team.
Remember this.

I think he visited with the Saints and kept it quiet. The Bucs did not interview him at the combine and the panthers were not at his workout, so the Saints are likely the undisclosed NFC South team he met with before the Falcons.

So losing Ellis made or defensive front 7 great all of the sudden and Boshrod was some all-world LT we can't replace? Did y'all see that Bushrod was just an average LT and our defense was abysmal last year?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the falcons looking for pass rushers at the end of the round. They are taking TE, CB, or DE depending on which spot has bpa.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it was us and I have him as a possible bpa for us if the visit goes well(if he did indeed visit).

Losing Eliis is a HUGE addition by subtraction, as he took time away from Hicks who showed promise in his limited role.

At NT, Bunkley and Hicks look to be a good combo that could disrupt the middle. Both players were underused by spags who for whatever stupid reason played Ellis way too much.

At DE we have Jordan locking down one spot and Hicks, Smith, Coleman, and others(Johnson and Walker for instance who could also back up the Nose) to compete for the other spot.

We have 3 solid vets in Lofton, Hawthorne, and Vilma to man the ILB spots. At OLB we have Galette, Wilson, and Butler(with possibly Broughton being a good switch to OLB) and Hawthorne could be a cover OLB when we aren't rushing both.

So yeah I think the front 7 is pretty set minus maybe a young DE to step in for Coleman/Smith next year or a vet OLB to help teach the youngins this year.

For the back we have:

Greer and Lewis as starting corner and PRob and White could be servicable Nickels. Greer is aging however and could be a cap casualty next year. If he's gone we need another starter unless White or PRob really step up this year.

At safety we have Harper manning the box but he could be a cap casualty next year. At FS we have Jenkins who still hasn't done shite outside the occasional "why can't he do that all the time" play and a servicable with potential IAQ.

Safety is clearly our weakest defensive position and corner becomes a concern next year if Greer is gone.

On LT, you hit the nail on the head. Bushrod was not all world and that was an issue.

With J. Brown Brees never had more than 18 sacks. With Bushrod he's never had less than 20 and there's no denying much more pressure came from that side and it caused Brees to get Happy Feet and throw stupid picks(some of which lead to tds which kills a team).

Our D will be middle of the pack just from the 3-4 switch and scheme change to man(just like it was under Williams; little high on yards but middle on points per game which is all that matters for a D).
