As far as sucess rate goes it wasn't any more or less successful than just regular dives.

No it didn't take away threat of PA, you could fake the toss.
My objection to it was that it forced the RB to take his eye off the hole to catch the ball. Whereas if you work on handing the ball off the QB and RBs will get used to the way that QB will hand it off so the RB won't have to take his eyes off the hole. You can't get that when you toss the ball.
It was a stupid play.

I heard it was used in order to get the ball into the RB's hands early so he can see the hole quicker or something

That's pretty much the exact purpose. Definitely not a terrible play, but I feel like we overplayed it

Yeah, it worked well more often than not, but felt like the only running play in the book sometimes.
