Yep, a little over a 4 hour brew day with taking pictures and posting them and cleaning up. Not too bad at all.

4 hours from beginning of the mash to cooling. I'm about to transfer to a carboy, pitch my starter, then finish cleaning up. So if you count the beginning, where i boiled water to heat up my tuns, and cleanup, it will be about 5.5 hours.

Got my wort down to 80, whirlpooled the wort, now transferring to the fermenter.

Refractometer? I don't have one of those. I did take a pic of the hydrometer inside the beer thief.

I got skills... I just lined up the camera on my phone inside the refrac. I do it with my Scope on my rifle too. Takes some talent.

He's talking about the ones I posted. Get a refract off ebay. They're like $30 tops. Get the dual scale one.

Star San question:
I noticed in Zappa's thread all of the suds left from sanitizing with Star San. I know it's a no rinse, but I usually try to get all of the suds out. Am I wasting my time, does it not make any difference?

No it doesn't. The suds leave no taste or anything. It just means your stuff is sanitized. Sometimes i rinse my carboy after starsan, but that's if i sanitize the day of brewing and don't have enough time to let the carboy dry out. It never hurts my beer. My kitchen is pretty clean so no real risk of infection.

Got some good krausen in my fermenter. Have about 1 gallon of headspace in my fermenter. Hopefully I won't need a blowoff tube. If so, I have one sanitized and ready.

sweet! I usually have a gallon or so of BrewVint mixed up, and it doesn't sud up at all, so I use it to rinse out the suds. Sounds like it was just overkill.

I find that most of my fears with brewing are irrational.

As were mine when i first started. Just ask the resident brewers here. I was asking about 3 questions/day in fear of me ruining my beer.

After nearly 2 years of brewing, i realized that 99% of my concerns are overreactions to the natural brewing process. And i've also learned that infection is pretty hard to come by, with my cleaning/sanitizing procedures.
