From Sam Montgomery admitting to taking plays off, to Blue and his "Sissy' quotes, to Mathieu's admission of not wanting to play in NC game, how difficult is it to prevent athletes from self-destructive impulses when dealing with the media.

Maybe Common Sense 101?

The athletic department has one. He came and talked to my business class in 2011. Great guy, very knowledgable about public relations and sports in general. Knows how to play the game. He talked extensively about his efforts to prepare Jordan Jefferson for a 3-day preseason special ESPN was doing on LSU and the SEC. Pretty interesting.

Yeah, there's definitely people who help them with this, but sometimes you can't prevent someone from saying something stupid. And sometimes you can't predict what's gonna be asked. It doesn't seem like Blue had any coaching about this issue beforehand, so maybe the media member completely blind-sided him with it... I mean I'm sure he was getting typical questions, like how his injury is progressing, what to expect in spring game, and then BOOM huge controversial question.

All student athletes are required to meet with professors to work on their public speaking skills. It's also one of the reasons you used to never see freshman allowed to speak with the media. Someone within the program will have a nice sitdown with Blue in the next few days.

LSU's guy needs to do a better job, he is starting to look bad.
And the schools need to remember who is exploiting their players to bolster their resume's.
Ever wonder why your favorite Saint reporter never asks that hard question?
