New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Friday that restricted free agent running back Chris Ivory has signed his tender offer.

PFT

Chris Ivory is under contract with the Saints. Which doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play for the Saints this season.

Ivory, a running back who has played his entire NFL career with New Orleans, was drawing some interest as a restricted free agent, but the Saints announced today that Ivory has signed a contract. So Ivory will not be leaving in free agency.

However, before Ivory signed with the Saints, he visited the Jets, and there was talk that the Jets and Saints might work out a deal in which the Saints ship Ivory to the Jets for a late-round draft pick. That is still a possibility.

If true, it's a sign and trade

Honestly, I don't know the exact rules regarding this under the new CBA.

I think it's just extremely rare. Jets did it last year for our boy Jason Smith actually.

So, what does this mean in terms of a possible trade? Are we more or less likely to trade him to NY?

Without a doubt, Chris Ivory will either be traded or he won't be traded.

Thought I remember seeing something about RFA's offer sheets needing to be signed by Friday (today)? Can't remember where I saw it and if true or not.

Nothing has changed. He just signed his tender. Today is the last day of restricted free agency and no one signed him to an offer sheet. The only option left for him (other than a holdout) was to sign the tender. He can still be traded.

Since he signed his tender, can a team he is traded to sign him to a longer term deal or do they have to wait out the season?

If they have to wait out the season, his trade value would be significantly diminished.

If you don't have dates and times then you don't get full credit.

I'm pretty sure today was the deadline too. Although I think he ends up getting traded, I don't think this has any effect on it.
