it's not even close = it's not even correct
In the 80's there was the now mythical Streetcar PoBoys on Carrollton. It was the best I can remember. The blackened redfish poboy was a thing of beauty and I don't even like blackened redfish.
In it's prime, Mother's Ferdi or the Ralphie were excellent. Mother's became a tourist trap because it was so good, their red beans are still my gold standard.
Parkway, R&O's, Domalise's, Crabby Jack's, all have amazed me at times. Giorlando's on Bonnabel in Metairie was great until it decided to be a restaurant and not a joint.
Streetcar was the best.

Johnny's poboys in the quarter is also another good one.
Probably one of the best poboys I've had is at O'Brien's Grille on the westbank. Their irish dip poboy is incredible. It's sliced corned beef with shaved prime rib severd with creole mustard and horseradish and a side of au jus.

"Old Tyme Special" is great in Lafayette.
"Surf-n-turf" is awesome at Daryl's in Lake Charles.
Catfish and Shrimp Po-boys are sweet at Soileau's Restaurant in Opelousas -- just have to be wary of the natives when dining or picking up orders...

Crabby Jack's is the best place for fried shrimp or oyster IMO.

I freaking love Parkway and will argue to the death with the Domilise's figs any day, however, the RB sucks and I will never order it again.
Mother's sucks and if I see that place featured on food network or the travel channel again, I might lose my shite.
All of these tourists come in town and leave saying, "Eh, po'boys, were ok but not that great."
Well it's because you went to Mother's.
Same can be said for a lot of places in that area though.

Old Tyme uses the wrong kind of bread. Great spot, but that is an auto-DQ. Just saying.

Best Muff in the metro IMO.
been a few years, across the street from Check in check out there was a grocery store with a deli in the back. I used to get their roast beef fully dressed before making the ride back to BR. Its apparently not there anymore. it was not LOY-N-Vet Food when I went there. I got the Chevron down the street mixed up, the one with the Taqueria sanchez inside.
