Keep Vasquez. Upgrade the talent around him.

For this upcoming year, I think this is the best option. However, you don't avoid picking a PG because of him. I do think upgrading the point through a trade is a very pointless endeavor. The cost will be bigger than the reward.

BPA in the draft does make sense, but I'd sure rather that best player be Porter or Noel right about now, as each could easily fill an existing hole on the roster.

I agree. Almost no way you can keep GV. Roberts is cheap and proving to do well. Bledsoe should be priority for Dell. Big time over Burke. Upgrade through trade or FA at PG. Picking Burke isn't much of an upgrade defensively. Will still have the same issues on perimeter defending. And a slight upgrade offensively.

Don't be surprised if Dell goes Oladipo or even trades up for him. Dell was at a lot of IU games. And him and Monty are said to be very upset with the perimeter defense because we cannot stop opposing guards. Burke doesn't help that situation.

I'll probably sound like a fool in 3 years, but Noel terrifies me as a pick.

Why would a PG who has no pick and roll ability be priority for Demps?

You are the only person I've seen, both expert and common fan, that seems the least bit concerned about potential long term effects of his ACL injury.

Don't want Bledsoe. Roberts kept ripping him a new a-hole the other night when he started in place of Vasquez.

I don't particularly like trading Vasquez given that he is only making $2.1m next year and we are unlikely to get any assets of note for him.

If we get a late lottery pick from Dallas or a decent non-lottery pick from Utah or Milwaukee, I could go for a Vasquez trade. I don't see us getting that much for him, though, and certainly don't see a player picked around those spots bringing as much to the table as he does.

Roberts shot some ridiculous threes that went in. Bledsoe was key to that 39 pt fourth quarter for the Clips. But I agree, not much you can get for Vasquez. But Burke certainly isn't an upgrade for us to take in the top 5. That's for sure.

No, it's in no way "for sure". It's your opinion.

No, it's the truth. Because he doesn't provide what we need which is perimeter defense for rotations to help bigs.

re: The 5th pick scenario

Now that we are 5th in the lottery lets play this thing out lets say it stays as is:

Orlando 1st, Bobcats 2nd, Cavs 3rd, Suns 4th, and Pels 5th

I think Orlando without thinking goes with Noel...McLemore wouldnt be a surprise but I do not think they can pass on Noel

The Bobcats will definitely take Noel if he falls to the 2nd pick but here I think they take McLemore

The Cavs have Irving and Waiters unfortunately they go with Otto Porter regardless the Cavs will go after a SF

The Suns I think are a toss up I can definitely see them going with Dipo but I can also see them grabbing Bennett here

When the Pelicans pick, in my opinion Burke, Bennett, Bazz will all be on the board - What would you do at this point?

Hope that someone goes Bennett early. If not then trade out will be most likely. Or draft someone that another team likes and look for possibilities. If not possible then go BPA and get Bennett. He might be athletic enough to guard 3s in the league.

Why not? If he's fast enough to blow by guys on offense why isn't he fast enough to stay in front of them on defense? I get that Burke has some similar strengths and weakness to Vasquez so you have to wonder if he's worth using the pick on, but would he really provide the same scheme defeating defense as Vasquez? We saw how much things changed when Gordon came back and you went from horrible to average guard play.

re: The 5th pick scenario

I agree that Gordon made a difference. But then we are with a 5'11 PG and a maybe 6'3 SG. How can that help rotational defense? And you just said it, he poses some of the same strengths and weaknesses as GV, so why spend a top 5-6 pick on a guy that will be a marginal upgrade?

Our perimeter defense was so bad even with Gordon on the court which is why the Clippers scored a 39 pt quarter and the Mavs 62 in a half. Not to mention, the fact that we had bad perimeter defense made Davis look not as good as he should on defense due to rotating.

And maybe you say... Okay well put Gordon on the best guard and let Burke defender the weaker one. Well, what happens when the weaker guard is the SG and is 6'5-6'6? That would pose a different problem all together.

Again, you're passing your own opinion on as absolutes. You have no idea how he his on the ball pressure will be with 1) Monty as his coach 2) He's not playing 40+ minutes a game and 3) In a totally different environment than the UM system.

And while he might not have "elite quickness" like Westbrook or Lawson, who does? No one. His foot quickness and length is just fine, and that's what matters. When his combine numbers (shuttle, etc.) measure up, we'll see how people feel with "wasting" a 5th pick on him.

Really? I've read multiple places that there is concern about his second major injury to that knee. Do you really think there is no concern at all about arthritis or scar tissue?
