But frick Remington. What's the closest I can get? I want a light rifle with composite stock. A common brand and model in the same price range as a 700.

What do I want?

I just asked the same question in the boycott remington thread.

There are some great deals on those rifles these days, but... to hell with Remington.

I'd give them $1 for one. Let them take a big loss

It's a pitty because I love my 700.

Love their products, but Remington is on my shite list now.

Winchester Model 70, Ruger American Rifle to answer your question.

Also, look at Tikkas. I've never shot one, but I've heard good things.

My uncle has a featherlight model 70 30-06, that thing is a tack driver, I shoot that rifle better than any rifle I've ever shot.

Two of my dad's deer slayers, one in 270, the other in 300 mag. Both fantastic rifles.

Excellent rifles, but come with a premium price tag.

My model 70 270 has been accurate and reliable for 25 years. I don't know if the new ones are the same, but I know the older ones are awesome.

Hit the pawn shops and buy a used one or grab a browning A bolt.

Winchester Model 70, have one in .30-06 it's a beast. If you can find one made before 1964, even more better.

Tikka in stainless with a composite stock. That action is smooth and accuracy is guaranteed out of the box. I will probably be replacing my BDL .308 with one.

Tikka here also. I have one in .308 and love it. If you want to spend more money the sako A7's are nice too. Were you looking at a 700 sps for $379.99 and looking to stay in that range or are you looking at a higher end 700 with a $1000 price range?
