I get the color barrier issue. IMO that was more the reason for his selection than his play.
Agree/disagree?
His career averages:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR GRSL RBI BB IBB SO SH SF HBP GIDP AVG OBP SLG
162 Game Avg 572 111 178 32 6 16 86 23 4 87 34 .311 .409 .474 271 12 1 1 8 13

I do think he would have made the HOF if it weren't for the racist MLB and society that prevented him from playing at a younger age.

Yes

JMO - anyone who wins a Rookie of the Year and MVP (as Jackie did) should garner a serious look.

There's no reason not to also consider his negro league numbers IMO. There was excellent ball played in both leagues before MLB became integrated.

ETA: caught mistake after original post. Jackie only played one year in the negro leagues. So while others deserved election to the Baseball HOF for their negro league numbers Jackie was elected for what he did with Brooklyn

Easily a Hall of Famer. He was arguably the best player in the National League, and maybe even baseball, from 1948-1953. That's taking into account that he debuted right at his should-be physical peak. Advance metrics also show he defense was oustanding.

It's not even debatable that Robinson is a top 6 second baseman of all-time. He was clearly a deserving first ballot HOFer. Larry Doby's selection was actually much more questionable. He was a borderline HOFer at best.

I feel like I probably didn't emphasize enough one of my two main points in the prior post.

You could be elected to the HOF on the basis of negro league numbers alone. I believe there are currently 35 people elected to the HOF who were elected on the basis of only their negro league careers.

Plus he put up those numbers under death threats, a lot of racism from fans, players. Imagine the stress, not thinking clearly, his timing off.

That wasn't the original question though...... The question was should he make the hof on stats alone

Absolutely. He was a great player (at times MVP caliber) for 10 years in MLB. I do have to self correct on something else I said though.

I went back and looked at his negro league statistics and it looks like he only played one year in the negro leagues before being picked up by Branch Rickey

Let's see. There are 19 second basemen in the HOF. Among 2B, Robinson ranks 14th all-time in WAR, 5th all-time in WAR7, and 10th all-time in JAWS. Any way you look at it, Robinson is comfortably an inner circle HOFer.
