Obviously taking down a top 10 team on the road is huge, but this series showed us what the Tigers are really made of. After Friday night, I think the team expected another relatively easily decided game. Instead they were shelled. Their strengths became their weaknesses. A usual steady Eades gets rocked, the bats cooled until the bitter end in the 9th.
Riding practically zero momentum into game three, the Tigers and Razorbacks battled ferociously for 6 tied innings. Throughout those it seemed as if LSU might let this rubber game slip. Quick innings and barely any hitting due to insane Arkie pitching made it seem like they were barely scraping by.
Then comes the 9th/10th innings. After stellar appearances by Bourgiois and Cotton, the bats finally came alive to secure victory. I don't think that this series cliching victory can be overstated enough. They could have laid down and let Arkie take over like teams in the past might have. The will and determination for that team to fight back was pretty extraordinary.

This team is special folks, enjoy it while it lasts

I understand what you are trying to say, but I can't remember one team in recent past that layed down when a game was in question. In fact, most recent teams won the close games even if down a couple runs late.

Not to mention it really separates us from the rest of the SEC west. LSU and Vandy are CLEAR cut leaders of each side right now.

I could have worded that a little better. I guess "clutch hitting" is what I meant more than "laying down."

I believe this series is exactly what LSU needed. They are now battle tested and beating the best pitching staff at their own house will keep their confidence up.

Link?

I doubt they expected to easily beat Arkansas at any point during the weekend.

It also showed we better find a reliable 3rd starter. Can it be Glenn? Maybe, but you better have a 3rd starter that can win a big game in the post season or you aren't going anywhere.

Yeah i'm sure they thought they would just roll over the projected #1 pick.

This. Pitching will make or break this season in the end. Hoping Glenn of McCune (maybe) can anchor the Sunday spot.

I thought most realized Saturday was going to be the toughest game with Stanek on the mound.

Agreed. I've heard some people say we needed to start losing some games and even a series to wake this team up, but I'd gladly take this outcome where they showed some fight and pieced together a win despite not hitting the way we had and digging into the bullpen.

When you consider how hard it is to take 2-3 at Starkvegas, then at Ark, this team has mental toughness that is hard to describe. When you add to it the fact that we won the SEC at USCe last yr, you have to give a lot of the credit to CPM, as he's obviously very good at developing it. Mix in the leadership roles of the horses, Katz, Raph, Nola, JJ, etc. and this team won't fold down the stretch.

i'm not ready to agree yet. the team has 2 outstanding SP's and a very good pen. they also can hit and play very good defense. also, they showed they have the chest to fight for the win. all of these combined prove, to me at least, that they are a damn good team capable of being special. i hope that you are right about them being special (tough standards for LSU) and am going to enjoy the rest of the season. this team is also very exciting to watch or listen to.

oh, and i'm praying for an injury free year, esp on the mound.

I can give you two off the top of my head. 2011 Saturday AND Sunday against UF. I defy you to tell me they didn't give up in those games. On Friday, Eades mows down Florida in the 8th. Ott comes in in the ninth and gives the lead up. LSU loses. The next two games LSU absolutely quit.

LSU finishes 36-20 (13-17)

I can agree with you there.
That one series set the tone for a big let down season.
