just watched it again on the Universal Channel.
without a doubt Ben Affleck's best work as a director and outstanding performances by younger brother Casey Affleck, Amy Ryan, and Ed Harris! this film should have received multiple Oscar nominations. excellent choice of music for the score as well. this story features one of the biggest (and arguably the biggest) moral dilemma's ever approached in film!

Loved it.
Hated the ending.
Made me like it more because I hated the ending.

I like Argo as well, but yea GBG > Argo and it aint even close.
I do think GBG set the stage and gave Affleck the cred he needed for a movie like Argo to get the kind of awards it got.

GBG got him the initial attention. The Town probably solidified his cred enough for Argo to get a win.
Frankly, I hope he keeps directing because he did a good job on GBG and The Town. Still haven't gotten around to Argo, though.

After the Best Director win, yeah, I suppose it does.
What I mean is more along the lines of "I hope he keeps picking appropriate projects."
GBG and The Town worked because they're Boston-based, which he had an insight into.
I'm guessing Argo was up his alley because of the whole "This is Hollywood trying to think up its best ideas for a hostage rescue" angle.
He needs to be careful about stepping too far outside his comfort zone because people expect a lot out of an Oscar follow-up.

I agree GBG>Argo but I really liked Argo, mainly because it was a true story I was not familliar with at all. Arkin and Goodman were top notch in it also for their limited screen time.

This is one of my favorites also. There is a book series based in these characters and even a follow up with the same kidnapped kid that takes place 15 or so years later. The books are by Dennis Lehane, the same guy that wrote Mystic River, and Afflek is attached to direct another movie based on one of his books. I think it's called Live By Night but I haven't read it.

He won Best Picture as the producer. Best Director was Ang Lee. Affleck wasn't even nominated for Best Director. I'm not hating though. I enjoyed it.
