Does Golf play the tradition card too much?

First let me say that I am a avid player. I played for my high school team a long time ago and play weekly. I love golf and the traditions of golf.
But, when we watch golf coverage. Weather it be on TV or read on the internet, all we read about is its "tradition and historic players". No other sport seems to grovel on the past players and champions like it does. And especially at the Masters..
In the past few days, we have had more of todays players being compared to Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus, Sneed, etc than ever...
Are the past players but too much on a pedestal compared to todays players?
Thoughts?

Why does every sport have to value the same stuff?
Baseball is the most statistics obsessed sport in the world. I know HS coaches who keep records of Johnny's chances of getting a hit if he takes strike one during a night game.
Viva La Difference.

Though I was taught golf by a traditionalist, I have always thought golf lived in the past. Not just with the players but with its outdated rule book as well.
I think it is time for golf to look at its rule book when it comes to the PGA tour and update. While the Tiger issue this week was covered, they have to understand that every shot that every pro makes in every tournament is covered by 10 HD cameras in different angles which is an advantage and should be treated as one.
Every sport has a different set of rules for each level of its participants. Its time that golf did the same. Some of the rules are outdated and need to be looked at.

I think the diameter of the hole should be increased by one inch. I'm tired of reaching the green in 2 and 3 putting.

Buy your own golf course. Make it happen.

Except that every shot isn't covered.

I get what you're saying, but I enjoy the tradition. Some absolutely fantastic books on the beginning of golf.
Golf coverage is lacking in stuff to comment on a lot of times. What you see is what you get. So the announcers reminisce on old times. Same with baseball. So much down time.

I think a lot of us has to do with the respect that the current players also have for the past players. I sense more of a "me" attitude for a lot of players in other professional sports.

At times I wonder how much of it is real or is it just the thing to do.
Golf has a different type of athlete but in the end, people are people.
