So I'm sure it's already been discussed, but I don't have time to read through 45 pages so can anyone tell me where the scenes with Theon, and who I'm positive is Ramsay Bolton, came from? I've read the books up to the end of the fourth one, but I don't recall those scenes in ASOS.

They're from ADWD

That's what I figured. Why are they merging scenes from different books?

I think they are only on the blu-ray versions.

Because those scenes don't really occur in book 5, they are merely alluded to and occur (apparently) during the current timeframe.
Also, Theon doesn't appear in books 3+4, and they didnt want to go 3 or more seasons w/o him showing up. So they're showing us these scenes now.

Exactly. By the time we get to Theon in Dance, he is already Reek. We hear him mention the multiple times he has tried to escape and how his windows of opportunity were all orchestrated by Ramsay to give him false hope, and to later mind frick him by easily capturing him. This sequence is being done excellent in my opinion. Theon really thinks he escaped, was almost captured, and is now home free. It's going to be greatness when he opens the gates and sees a bunch of impaled flayed ironmen inside. Then we hear Ramsay say something about why would you want to leave the comforts of my hospitality Reek?

where sis all of those come from? They have been great. I found some with the audiobooks as background yesterday, but these are all History.
It's really cool. I am just nerding out.

Although aside from trying to escape a few times and losing parts of his body, does Theon really have much to do until we get to the back 1/2 of ADWD? So it seems like they perhaps they should be spacing out Theon's story in s3 a bit, otherwise, he's going to just have to disappear for 2-3 seasons until he starts doing things to advance the story. A bit unclear to me how HBO is going to handle this.

I just don't see any way that GRRM can wrap up all of these character story lines in two books. I mean, hell, they're still branching out. Most haven't even started to come together. I think 8 is the minimum to finish the story.
Of course, with Martin he could just wipe out say 75% of the characters in one chapter. Couple of paragraphs even. That would get him back on course to finish fast.

The Theon stuff from the beginning of book 5 happens at the same time or before the beginning of book 4, so once they get past season four of the show they will be mixing and matching books 4 and 5 for the next seasons and it won't be an issue. They will likely just move some of the early Theon stuff from book 5 into next season since he has so much screen time in book 5 they will have plenty left over for the next seasons.
I'm more interested how they are going to handle Dany after they get past next season, since she pretty much just sits on her arse in Mereen for most of two books worth of material until the end of book 5.

Is that right? What does Theon do in book 5? He tricks the Iron Islands people into surrendering, and then he's in play when Stannis marches on Winterfell, right? So the Iron Islands stuff could come into play earlier, I guess?
For Dany, don't they have the whole murder investigations and her becoming a proper Mereneese and the fighter pits closing in Mereen stuff to do with Dany that comes before Quentin's and Tyrion's arrival? Also, perhaps they'll push some of the Book 3 stuff in with the Season 4 stuff.

Reading all of this affirms that I think GRRM is never going to finish this series .
