I keep a Yahoo Finance and CNN Money tab open all day long. I keep several stocks that I have interest in and read articles, message boards, opinions, etc.
CNN Money has a link to StockTwits as well, which is good if you can sift through the shite at times.
Also, fatwallet.com has a message board for investing that I check periodically.
My response is more geared toward specific stocks, as opposed to the market as a whole.
The Money Talk board here cannot be beat IMHO!

So where would you refer someone who knew zilch (for the most part) about the market as a whole?

This topic comes up often, search this board for books to read or something like that. I have a list written down that i add to when I see a new book recommended.
I cannot find the list at the moment btw.

TDAmeritrade offers free classes if you have an account with them.. they are walk me throughs on understanding the basics, tech analysis, options, bonds, etfs, etc.
they really helped me a lot understand how the market moves.
