Yeah, cause those grow on trees and shite. Never mind that Payton's previous contract with the Saints was voided by the league because it had language that said Loomis had to be there or Payton could leave or some shite like that. Apparently having Loomis here is pretty damn important to him.

(those are Sean Payton's hands, fwiw)

maybe we should put better defensive scouting troops on the ground then. And i'd be truly curious as to what the real structure of the decision making is on the team regarding team personnel.

Mickey is a good GM for a coach like Payton. Don't get in his way. The only decisions he has made that we can judge him on are

1. Firing haslett
2. Hiring payton

Make it happen loomis is a term coined by SP...probably

And? We all know Payton is the big swinging dick on Airline Drive. He gets what he wants. He wants Loomis and a big arse scouting department. He wanted Ryan when most fans wanted someone else. He doesn't give two shits what you want and neither do I.

i think Payton is blindly loyal to Loomis for hiring him.

He's cocky, he thinks he can fix anything. But clearly hasnt been able to do that with the defense. Mainly because of lack of talent, which in turn have led to bad contracts.

not that hard to understand.

Everyone here including me thought he'd never fire Gibbs and he didnt waste time firing Spags, each time he hires a top guy. He's trying, which is a far cry from when we thought he would never can Gibbs

Patriots have the best of both worlds. All time great QB, system similar to the Saints, and one of the best defensive coaches ever.

The Saints have had a decade long drought of bad defensive drafts. Just so happens coincides with Loomis' tenure.

Pre 2006 means nothing to me, sorry.

Since then, not overly bad IMO and half the busts got injured early in their careers.

I don't really blame picks like ellis on loomis so much. The entire NFL had him rated very highly and equally on the level he was drafted at.

Pre 2006 showed how bad he actually was.

he should have never made it out of the Haslett regime.

you don't actually know it was mickey really making those final calls. YOu are totalling dismissing the head coach and defensive staff's input in place for ALL of these decisions.

Haslett made all of the calls too. (stallworth, tebucky jones, sullivan, hodge, craver) Mickey is not an Ozzie newsome type GM. Moreover he didnt hire haslett.
