re: Cop shot the neighbor's dog...

I may or may not know of officers that rode through areas referred to as a ghetto and sprayed every dog they saw late at night. The dogs soon learned when they saw a police car that they better find a good place to hide.

mace the dog, mace the dog, mace the dog. That is what I keep reading. How many have ever maced a dog? What does "threatened" mean? Was it moving in his direction growling?? Mace just pisses off some dogs when they are in protection mode. You can mace your grandma but mace (there are different kinds) isn't 100% sure to stop them. Tasers work .... but if you can reach him he can reach you ....

Are you just ignoring everyone that has posted in here with stories of mace being effective?

Gun should be last resort, and I bet cops are trained that the firearm is a last resort.

which makes it odd that so many dog shootings are occurring lately. Are cops pure pieces of shit? Possible. Are these dogs overly aggressive creatures that are unstoppable? Possible. Who knows?

Why don't they just shoot everyone that they feel is a threat while they're at it?

Human does not equal dog

Obviously the law doesn't carry the same standard for each and rightfully so.

His post doesn't absolve you of talking out of you arse about mace being ineffective on dogs.

Impressive. Unfortunate that I agree with a fellow UF fan. It is what it is.

I still expect for there to be a least lethal solution to a problem. Being a cop doesn't (or at least shouldn't) give you carte blanche to destroy people's property, and that includes killing pets.

Are you purposely ignoring my own experiences where it did not work. All of these put together should indicate to your 4 digit I.Q. that it isn't 100%

While that sounds like a shitty thing to do if looked at casually, given the likelihood of callouts in such areas I'd actually commend those guys for doing that instead of going out there and putting 3 rounds into the neighborhood dog every time they have to respond to a call.

Per my other buddy that works for the Birmingham News...

quote:

The truth is, we often do not report on it, because it really happens quite frequently and the response from BPD is always the same: The officer felt as if he was in danger, and an investigation is underway (as happens anytime an officer uses a weapon I believe).

Of course. Simply not enough verified sources. His hypothetical of dogs not being affected by mace trumps all.

You're just one example, I'll side with the many more that disagree with you. Sorry you apparently are issued defective mace.

re: Cop shot the neighbor's dog...
I'd never want to be a cop right now with all the restrictions, videos, smartphone cameras, etc.

So, with all that in mind, it seems odd that they are going to such extreme measures against dogs due to the possible backlash. It just doesn't seem worth the trouble.

It does where warranted .... or we could just let dogs eat cops because they are someone's pet. I suppose the cop isn't someone's dad, husband, son, .... no, save the frickin dog by all means.

One thing that I think many here don't take into consideration is how many times on a daily basis officers that due employ lesser forms of force to avoid shooting a dog. Of course that wouldn't make the news so no one would hear about it.

Yea, always go with the most lethal option on how to handle a situation. You're fricking trash. Congrats.
