Finishing up our new house and we need to select appliances. Just wanted to get a feel from folks on what brands you prefer.

We used Whirlpool in our apartment and it was pretty good, anything better? TIA

It seems to get all pretty silly at some point. When you consider what the point of a fridge is, what is the difference between a #4,000 model and a $2,000 model?

My research says the GE profile line seems to be pretty good for the money though.

FTW. Also Viking. Dacor is a slight step down, but high quality. Bosch makes good (quiet) dishwashers.

For most nicer homes, GE Profile or Kitchen aid are good quality, and would be just fine.

Amana still makes a damn good fridge at a low price.
We had a power outage in the middle of summer two years ago. Temp in the house got up to 85. 24 hours later the power came on and I opened the fridge. It was cold. No spoilage.

It is.
. . . GE profile is also widely distributed enough to get pricing deals on the front-end, and service availability on the back-end.

We have a Northland Refrigerator in one of our places. Great quality. It's a good thing though, because the area residential dealer-service-rep shut down. Getting service could be a challenge.

DCS Cooktop is fabulous. High BTU. Great design. Other appliances are less important to me so I am less opinionated on them. I do enjoy the quietness of the top of the line Bosch dishwasher.

We just if wished our house. No point in putting in all that subzero stuff for the looks. After a few months of living there, it's just a cooktop. We ended up going with GE Profile. I did read some bad reviews regarding the Profile dishwasher, so I opted for Bosch, which is what we had in our previous home.

I agree. I went through consumer reports as well, before I purchased my appliances.

I bought all Bosch stainless 500 series for my home. Right around 6k for everything including fridge after 15% rebate from manufacturer. Bought online at aj Madison. No sales tax, free shipping

If your OCD, be leery of mixing appliances, as all stainless is not identical. Would not have gone Bosch Fridge if I wasn't OCD

I have a subzero refer and it is absolute junk. I have a Viking stove and dishwasher and they are all that people claim them to be. You can't even tell the dishwasher is running its so quiet.

We purchased Electrolux. It's "high-mid" IMO. What I like is that the stainless appliances are stainless on ALL sides, not just the front. The side of our refrigerator is exposed so I like that it shows as stainless.

Agreed.

This is what I own at present and am happy with it.

Bluestar, if you get a dealer, probably the best (although expensive) gas ranges.

I would consider induction, honestly, because that's the future. Very expensive, but the reduction in energy costs, heat wastage, etc. would make sense if you want to keep it electric. Lots of people getting on the induction bandwagon now, so I don't have a recommendation on a brand, yet.

Speaking from personal experience, avoid electrolux at all costs. They make a nice, high-end looking product that is absolute shite in terms of quality.

Shop at scratch and dent places. You can get amazing discounts for the tiniest imperfections on high quality appliances - GE, LG, Phillips, etc. I'm about to do a major remodel on our house and we're going to look at a few scratch and dent places for our appliances. Our builder does this all the time and usually saves in the neighborhood of 25-30%.

i've got a Thermador 6 star burner, microwave, and dishwasher. 4.5 years running and hasn't missed a beat. so i'm satisfied. the gas burner can be a PIA to clean though...
