we could still keep Lopez and pay some luxury tax $ correct?

no. we are limited by teh actual cap. once we get there, then we can sign players on exception deals

[quote]I just can't believe Demps' long term plan is to have a $40 million backcourt[/quot

Unless they start officiating games like they did pre-shaq, it probably is a good move putting your $ in back court and at SF and just have your frontcourt be serviceable on offense and protect the goal. I bet okc wishes they had it to do over and held on to harden and let ibaka go.

It's pretty much mathematically impossible to go from under the cap into the tax in one offseason. Once you're under the cap you don't have access to most of your cap exceptions, so you have to make actual cap space for moves. The Knicks traded for Bargnani yesterday and the league office rejected the trade because it violated the cap rules. Demps manages the cap pretty well so I think there's zero chance this happens, but if he offers Tyreke too much money for instance, his signing could be rejected. Or if some trade kicker from Holiday's contract added more to our cap than expected Demps might be forced to dump more guys to make room for the deal he gave Evans. Again, not likely to happen, just illustrating that the cap rules must be abided by.

Gotcha. Just hate to lose Lopez just bc I feel he is very serviceable for his price tag.

Is Aaron Gray available?

that'd be like $30M at the 4/5 and $40M at the 1/2/3

If Tyreke plays a lot of time at the 3 it's ok, but if he's just a supersub spending a lot of time at 1/2 it seems like an imbalance in the roster you don't want. The highly paid 6th men usually have a lowly paid role player starting ahead of them, not a near max level guy.

No, he's in the last year of his deal in Toronto. But he's exactly the type of 15 MPG match up center the team needs. I said from the time we signed Lopez that he was filling an Aaron Gray sized hole on the roster.

Not many people can fill a hole that big.

11M is way too much for a guy who averages 15 ppg, sfp. Chandler Parsons is a more productive wing than Evans and he won't get close to 11 per next summer

The 6-9 range is more reasonable imo

Link? I know this is one of his brothers and I don't see anything like that.

In response to someone mentioning the Pelicans offer he said

@TheRealDRoc28 yeah. We'll see what happens now

If he continues to put up the numbers he did this year, he will.

I thought so to, but it's not difficult. We're going to be right up at the cap if/when we sign Evans (unfortunately we can't combine the space with the 150% of outgoing salary trade rule like we thought). But once there, you can go over the cap by taking back 150% of the salary you send out. So if we're at $1m under, we can send out Vasquez's $2.2m and get back up to $3.4m, putting us over. I wouldn't be shocked it things pan out exactly like that for a Webster type SF.

Not everyone will. People still have trouble accepting that we traded Jarrett Jack for Robin Lopez.

Correct. Most people just don't pay enough attention, which is fine. The issue is when people think they know and just have no clue.

There is also the issue of these posters who think constant complaining is contributing. What they don't realize is that problems are much easier to spot than solutions. By only pointing out problems and never a real solution, they show their true ability.

As far as going from a Room team to a tax team . . . you can cover the ~$13m gap in one trade after chewing up the Room MLE and adding a min player, then you send out ~$20m. This is rare, but it's quite possible. It's easier to do in a series of trades to get you there.

Or just a trade sending out $26m and getting back $39. Then sign min players to put you over.

It's practicality stopping you. This would really only be a good idea to get stars, but how with so little going out, or to dump long-term salary for expiring to blow it up.

Oops, I read it as going from under the cap to over the cap. Yeah, getting into the tax would require some high salaried trades.

ETA: Don't forget that once you go over $10m outgoing in one trade, what you can take back drops from 150% of outgoing to outgoing + $5m

Wrong. Chandler Parsons is going to get PAID.
