The AD screwed up somewhere in this situation. He either should have fired Rice as soon as he saw the video, or never fired him at all.

And, the coach was physically abusing the student-athletes. There isn't a person in the world that would have a problem with a professor being fired if he threw a desk at a student, grabbed them by their shirt and shoved them out the door, and called him a fig on his way out.
Yes, and yes.

Exactly.

I'm not a ESPN fan but you seem like the guy who just wants to blame it for everything regardless of the circumstances.

True story, I have not watched anything on ESPN other than "live games" for about 2 months, until I happen to be home early the day this story broke. I saw the news that evening (it was opening day and I was looking for baseball highlights), so I saw how far ESPN was pushing this story.

I don't know what Lebron James and Desmond Howard tweeted about Brian Kelly sending a student up into a portable camera tower that led to his death, but I know what they tweeted about the Rutgers coach. I read on here what Mike Golic said about never allowing his sons to play for that mean ole Rutgers coach, but his Golic had no problems allowing his boys to play for this guy...

I sure hope he didn't use a homophobic slur in this rant

If Rice actually won games, and the douche Murdick didn't frick up and not do his job, this story would have never existed

Fire the coach. Fire the AD. Hell fire ayone that was in a position of authority to make that decision who after viewing that video or hearing about it pre-ESPN story thought a suspension and fine was apppropriate.
Im no President/AD but had I seen that video I would have walked straght to the gym and fired the coach DURING practice on the spot.
The gay slur issue is being attached to the story by the liberal/pro-gay activists in the media to further their social ideology. If "figgot" had never been said I still think heads roll when the story breaks the way it was handled. You cant physically abuse people in your care. Its the way our society has evolved.

Deal with it.

But I do believe the decision to fire the AD over this was correct.

I can at least understand the arguments to fire the coach. I will never understand the argument to fire the AD over this. He didn't sweep it under the rug. He suspended and levied a substantial fine on the coach.

That's the thing, a suspension is a very public thing. Media members are going to notice that the HC is not coaching for 3 games. Did no one ask why that was happening? Did they just ignore that he was supsended? Why all the outrage now? Why did it take 4 months for there to be an issue?

Not good enough.

You cant tell me this is a "1st offense" with a guy that has those kind of anger issues. Likely this is something the admin's knew about before it went public.

I havent heard much on the reaction of his behavior at a "camp for kids" where he also lost control. Is that true or rumors?

If anything, fire the people who hired him in the first place...

What does that tell you about the board who approved his contract? They hired him to do his job, and he obviously thought the punishment fit the crime, yet they still undermine him?

Don't hire him in the first place if you plan to question his decision making and don't trust the job he can do. Very hypocritical

re: Rutgers AD has been fired

If people want to disagree with the AD and say, "he should have fired him from the start," that's fine, it's your opinion. But having a diference of opinion is not a fire-able offense.

Seriously, this AD just lost his job. An AD, who was up until now considered very good at his job, will now probably never get hired again as an athletic director, because a few people felt his punishment was not harsh enough. He didn't yell at kids, he didn't throw any basketballs. Are there any reports that this behavior happeded after the coach was suspended? No. So basically, the AD helped to stop the negative behavior from happening at practice, but the AD loses his job anyway.

He was too lenient. He should have immediately fired the coach when he saw him and that douchy assistant coach physically abusing the players.

ETA: That shows extremely poor judgment on the AD's part.

What is this about an assistant coach?

The AD mishandled this ordeal. If he fires Rice as soon as he sees the video instead of the fine/suspension, then he would have done his job correctly. I have no problem with them firing the AD. He only did his job because ESPN forced his hand.

This, plus he didn't do anything to the asst. coach whose actions were worse than the head coach.

How did you go from this:

ESPN used twitter to get those dudes fired.

to this:

How bad were the players hurt? Broken legs? Large bruises? Any guess?

They called him Baby Rice. He resigned when Rice was fired, Jimmy Martelli.

As if "screaming homophobic slurs" is a fire-able offense.

Go up to one of your subordinates (assuming you have some, if not just go to a coworker), scream loud enough for the whole office to hear that he's a "fricking ****ot", shove him in the chest, then grab something off his desk and throw it at his nuts.

Get back to us on what happens to you.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that. I quit watching about half-way through, but I agree, that was very bad.
