What other clubs would target him? Man U possibly? Seems like most of the major players don't have a huge need for what he provides.

Well, I'm sure Barca can "promise" him too.

Looks like Thiago's agent is none other than Pep's brother

Looks like they've had their chance

Yeah, I've known about the brother angle for a while.

They have been telling him. I know I get ridiculed for this, but give me the 22 year old Thiago over the 26 year old Fabergas for the long term. Thiago just fits the Barca system perfectly.

he´s only 23, plays like he´s 25-26, he can defend, his passing range is very ample, he´s got goal as well, he´s Spanish, there are a lot of kickers here.

Also, that price avoids IVA (VAT), and Real has probably secured some very good terms (installment payments).

there´s nothing in the market like him.

Also, for your reference:

Sergio Ramos cost 27M, back when he was 23 (probably near 31M, again, on a plan which avoided VAT). He also, had no peer in the market at that time, and is of a position of less complexity and+or difficulty to find comparables.

I don´t need to defend his price, I don´t really care as much as it seems, but it is a good acquisition (in many respects).

The price is justified from what I've seen. He's a damn fine player.

On a side note, Ramos was 19 when he moved to Real, making his price more justified. Also he was awesome to watch at RB. The Ramos we get now can't be as insane. I keep wishing another CB would step up in the Spain camp so Ramos can move back to RB and displace the worthless Arbeloa.

yeah, i mean, price doesn't really matter to Real and he is very good. good get. just a lot higher than any number I had seen thrown around.

did he see the pitch at a tender 17 with Sevilla? Possibly 16? Going to have to google.

Something about age 23 concerning Ramos sticks in my mind (granted, it´s from a recent article which does exactly this, compare the Illara and Sergio fees).

Yeah, he was weeks shy of 20. His first match in Primera, he was 17.

I think Ray Hudson thinks they overpaid. at least I *think* this is sarcasm:

quote:

Good to see Real Madrid didn`t overpay for Illarremendi....and Messi overpaid on his taxes.

in other news, when asked about Suarez while in Jakarta on our Asia tour, Wenger said "as you know, the transfer market demands secrets and confidentiality, so I can't answer that question." I don't know guys, sounds like a done deal to me.

David Ornstein of the BBC says:

Arsenal pursuing Higuain & Suarez in hope of signing one. No fee agreed on Higuain, probably need to pay £40m release clause for Suarez #afc
