It would completely kill the sport if some of the big market teams struggle for a lengthy period of time. Baseball has always been driven by the success of teams with big fanbases like the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants (when they were in NY), Cardinals, Braves, etc.... If those teams don't do well, the sport suffers. The NBA could probably survive because their league has always been driven by the popularity of their superstars more than the teams themselves. Football wouldn't miss a beat because the NFL is the golden goose. But baseball would struggle mightily with a system in place like that. Just a terrible idea.
