Here's something everyone on the OB needs to know...and how we can back-up each other after a shooting.

JMA posted today

I wanted to wait a little bit before I posted this...
=====================

To "wait a little" can quickly be problematic if the media pursues a negative portrayal.

Quickly get all friends/family to start monitoring the local media web sites. Just as soon as the articles are posted, start submitting lots of supportive posts, e.g. "Great job! One less dirtbag!".

If a news article is critical, everyone start a barrage of hate posts directed at the station, e.g. "what kind of sorry journalist are you? The shooter is a hero. Pack your biased citizen-hating liberal pen and take it back to California."

The media will just make shite up and report it as fact, but they do watch the comments and will change their story to fit the mood of the viewers. I know this from personal experience.

Get ahead and shape the public conversation and the media. Detectives do pay attention to the news (at least in Houston they do).

What the frick is this about?

The guy shot someone in self defense that intruded his home. Case closed. There's no reason to have everyone alert everyone they know if this situation ever occurs. The last thing in the world a law abiding citizen ever wants to do is take someone else's life. However if a situation ever presents itself that it is either my family/ myself/ my closest friends or them, they die every time.

Good idea, I have no problem voicing my opinion whenever I can.

Uh, no. I can tell you've never had to ride that ride in a city with a liberal media.

My son's 100% straightforward justified homicide was initially portrayed as an "irresponsible parent leaving a child at home all alone with an unsecured weapon that resulted in a person being killed."

Then the story evolved into me and the boy were taking turns guarding the house at night, and it was his turn when the burglary occurred (they wouldn't call it a home invasion).

The police had a lady officer there monitoring news chatter on an iPhone and reporting it to detectives who would ask "how's the mood?" from time to time.

Some really bad things were being reported by the media about me and my son, and we were being treated accordingly.

Overwhelming supportive posts by the public is what changed things. News stories were modified, everything. Consideration of our arrest stopped, etc.

So no, the reality is that there is always something that can be done to you, even if you are totally justified.

You should have sued their asses into bankruptcy for Libel. Thats about the only thing that gets those hypocrits to shut up, being on the wrong of the court room.

There was an outpouring of support for my friend by the community and the police department. They had his back from what he told me. I just wanted to share with you all. The medi in Memphis has not spun it one way or another locally and it didn't make national news.

The fact that they eventually "corrected" the story pretty quickly absolved them of everything, but it was public sentiment (led by one of my friends) that caused that "correction".

That's what I'm saying, is the OB can really come to each other's aid really quick and in pretty decent numbers in such an event, and prevent such a crappy situation from happening in the first place by being the ones who steer the media.

That's frickin' awesome. My post wasn't directed at you, because it was obvious that things were being reported correctly. My intent was to share the concept of shaping the media in cites with a leftist media (like Houston). And how we almost found ourselves victims of the media after being victimized by a murderous home invader.

No surprise there. When I shot the shite out of a couple guys with an AK-47 some time back, not even local news covered it...you know, an AK-47 can't be used to stop crime.
